Arlong (アーロン) is a member of the Fishermen race, an anthropomorphic race that can exist on land or in the sea. He has sawshark genes within him. Known by the name "Arlong the Saw" (ノコギリのアーロン, Nokogiri no Aaron), he is infamous with humans for his unhinged ruthlessness. Fishermen regard him with renown.
Living as a pirate since his youth, Arlong eventually built a reputation for himself as the strongest pirate of East Blue. Ten years before the main story, he thought to make a kingdom for himself and landed his ship on Nami's homeland. After he quickly bested the island's residents, he took an immediate interest in Nami's talented map making and forces her to be a member of his crew. Arlong and his crew then refashion their ship to a building called Arlong Park.
While he promised to respect Nami's deal to buy her home back, Arlong sells her hard work away to a marine during the main story. He considers Nami to be an irreplaceable asset to him and wants her eternal servitude. Once Nami tearfully pleads for Luffy's help, the Straw Hats confront Arlong's crew. During his confrontation with Luffy at Arlong Park, the fisherman appeared to have the upper hand until they fight in the room containing Nami's painstaking maps. An enraged Luffy then savagely beats Arlong and destroys Arlong Park.

Personality
Arlong respects people for their greed and lust for treasure. He admired Nami's thefts and her detailed maps. Aside from these exceptions, Arlong is extremely prejudice towards humans. He hardly accepts them as equals and feels nothing when he slaughters them. He even treated Nami coldly despite claiming her to be one of his "comrades". Despite his cruelty to humans, Arlong likes his fellow fishermen and becomes furious if they are injured. He accepts them as his own family and protects his own kind with pride and confidence.
Fighting Style
As a fisherman Arlong possesses strength and endurance that towers over a normal human's capabilities. Many attacks hardly make him flinch, and he is a true menace underwater. He can regrow his lost teeth nearly instantly and even uses them as projectiles in fights. Arlong proficiently wields his saw blade and is capable of mass destruction when he uses it.
