Bat (バット) is an orphan who was adopted with other orphans by a kind woman named Toyo. To lessen her burden, he leaves his home to fend for himself. He is caught and is thrown into jail with Kenshiro at the start of the series. After revealing Rin's past to Kenshiro, he respects the wanderer as his older brother figure and follows him. He uses his mechanical expertise and mischievous pranks to sometimes aid their journey.

He matures as he travels with Kenshiro and eventually becomes a respectable freedom fighter who opposes the tyrannical Celestial Emperor army. In memory of Kenshiro, Bat and Rin dub their group the Hokuto army. As he ages, he falls in love with Rin.

Techniques[]

  • Crossbow Barrage - Bat fires a barrage of arrows from his crossbow, then finishes with a spread shot.
  • Sword Thrusting Dance - Bat pulls out his sword and moves forward while slashing in front of him, left and right. then pierces his sword out sending a ball of energy forward.

Fighting Style[]

When he is a child, Bat rarely fights as he prefers to play keep away with the series's dangerous villains. He relied on his trickery to protect his friends. As an adult, Bat has trained himself by mimicking Kenshiro's moves he saw during his youth. He is capable of performing some of his idol's pressure points.

Hisashi Koinuma said that Bat wasn't really going to use his improvised Hokuto techniques in the sequel, hinting that he would use another attack style instead. It was revealed that the older version of Bat supplements his martial arts with the use of weapons, mainly a sword and a crossbow.
