The Battle of Dongxing (東興の戦い, rōmaji: Tōkō no Tatakai) is a new battle in Dynasty Warriors 7. Historically, it was an area that Zhuge Dan tried to capture due to its strategic placing near Ruxukou.

During the battle, the elderly Ding Feng was able to take the Wei army by surprise and handed them a humiliating defeat after he prevailed even after ordering his small contingent to strip off most of their armor and long range weapons.

Role in the Game[]

In Dynasty Warriors 7, the battle is played from Zhuge Dan's perspective, attempting to capture two enemy castles simultaneously. The battle is divided into two halves, with Zhuge Dan attempting to capture the western castle and Wang Yuanji rescuing Wei units. Wu reinforcements attack the main camp, and Wang Yuanji retreats to the southwest. The battle reappears in Ding Feng's legendary battles and is portrayed more closely in Xtreme Legends. In Dynasty Warriors 8, the "East Gates Battle" is played, with Sima Zhao, Wang Yuanji, Zhuge Dan, Jia Chong, and Xiahou Ba confronting Wu's frontline troops. Both groups encounter ambushes and must retreat to the enemy main camp. If all ally officers are defeated, Zhuge Dan blames Sima Zhao, and Jia Chong advises not to trust him lightly. Defeating Sima Zhao will end the battle in a Wu victory.

Historical Information[]

During Sun Quan's reign, Ruxukou and its surrounding areas were a hotly-contested spot between the Wei and Wu forces in Yang Province. The dam project was completed during Sun Liang's reign, and Zhuge Dan requested a campaign to seize Dongxing, which was approved by Sima Shi. Ding Feng, who had 40,000 strong reinforcements, prepared for engagement, but the Wei forces were taken aback and collapsed the bridges. Huan Jia and Han Zong were killed during the battle, and Zhuge Ke decapitated Han Zong's head. Sima Zhao attempted to mitigate punishment by executing a subordinate, but was stripped of his noble rank. Zhuge Ke was appointed Governor of Jing and Yang provinces, while Ding Feng was promoted to "General Who Eliminates Bandits" and became the "Marquis of a Chief Village."
