Cheng Wu (onyomi: Tei Bu) is Cheng Yu's eldest son. There is little historically noted for him. After his father's death, he is mentioned to have inherited his father's legacy and sworn service to Cao Pi. His son, Cheng Ke, eventually succeeded his position. He plays a slightly larger role in the games and the novel.
Role in Games
In Dynasty Warriors, Cheng Wu serves under the Wei forces at Tianshui, which is often his only appearance in each installment. The fifth installment has him serve as a sub-officer under Ma Zun, defending the region southwest of Tian Shui Castle. In the seventh installment, he is part of the attack force against Liu Shan.
In Dynasty Warriors 8, Cheng Wu is one of the defenders of the interior of Nan'an castle in the north. Additionally, in Shu's hypothetical route, he defends the route towards Xiahou Mao at Chang'an with Zhang He against the invading Shu forces.
He is an average officer in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. His intelligence and politics are in the low 70's, while his other stats are lower.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Romance of the Three Kingdoms has Cheng Wu appear only in chapter 92. He served as Xiahou Mao's advisor when Zhuge Liang started his northern campaign. During a council after the deaths of Han De and his sons, Cheng Wu advised Xiahou Mao to lure Zhao Yun into a two-pronged ambush to capture the veteran general. Although they succeeded in the ambush, the Wei generals were struck with fear and most of them fled, forcing Xiahou Mao to withdraw.
