Gears in Dynasty Warriors: Online are a prominent feature for editing one's playable avatar. Aside from changing a character's appearance, gear equipment can enhance stat values when equipped; effects dramatically increase if gear parts are used together to form a set. Gear mainly consists of four parts: the head, torso, arms, and legs. Capes and other rear accessories function as optional gear parts, though they count as separate equipment and do not affect gear sets upon being worn.
Players can collect base gear in chests found in battles or at shops that constantly have a rotating inventory.
Crafting gear is done by using looms; success is determined by the player's own skill level and their chosen loom's quality. Different forms of gear modification include adding elemental resistance to gears via scrolls, changing a gear part's natural colors with dyes, and creating entirely new equipment by sewing base gear and raw fabric together.
