Ship customization returns in New Horizons albeit with more vessels, figureheads, and guns to choose from. Different regions now have their own unique selection of ships, both new and used. Different materials can be used to construct hulls like in the first game, but only certain ships are suitable for some of them. Also, it takes time for a new ship to be built, making used ones more appealing for those who have immediate need for additional vessels.
When deciding what kind of ship to buy, players should consider whether or not to choose models that come with oars. Unlike sails, oars allow ships to propel without relying on wind power.
Below is a list of traits that define a ship's performance in the game.
