Hu Ban (onyomi: Ko Han) is one of Wang Zhi's subordinates who is instructed to aid his master's assassination plot. Moved by Guan Yu's kindness, he instead chooses to betray Wang Zhi. He later swears his service to Liu Bei.
Role in Games[]
Hu Ban's role in Guan Yu's Escape differs in Dynasty Warriors 4. He guards the fourth gate, which cannot be opened until he is defeated.
In Dynasty Warriors 6, Hu Ban serves as part of an ambush at Chang Ban and Fan Castle. He further appears during Lu Bu and Diao Chan's stories at Guan Du and Xu Chang respectively, serving under Cao Cao. In Dynasty Warriors 8, Hu Ban only appears as a recruitable officer in Ambition Mode.
Dynasty Warriors 9, however, extends Hu Ban's appearances to as far as the Hanzhong campaign.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms[]
In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Hu Ban is the aide to the Administrator of Xingyang, Wang Zhi. When the governor sets up a trap to give hospitality to Guan Yu and Liu Bei's wives and then burn the house down, Hu Ban tells Guan Yu about it after the latter hands him a letter describing his goodwill after hearing that he was related to the writer, Hu Hua. This allows Guan Yu to escape with the wives and cut down Wang Zhi. Years later, Hu Ban is asked by Guan Yu to escort Fei Shi to Liu Bei's base at Chengdu, after thanking him what he had done for him a long time ago.
