Yoshimasa Kiso is a Takeda general who is among the many who were displeased with Katsuyori's actions after Shingen's death. Convinced by Ieyasu, he chose to leave his roots and join forces with the Oda.
Role in Games[]
The Samurai Warriors series has Yoshimasa first seen in Samurai Warriors 2 as an officer under Shingen. During Nobunaga and Nō's stories, Yoshimasa, Nobukimi Anayama, and Nobushige Oyamada defect to the Oda clan to end the Takeda bloodline at Ueda Castle. If Kiso or his two defected compatriots are killed, the morale of the Oda Coalition would plummet.
In Samurai Warriors 3 however, Yoshimasa remains loyal to his Takeda superiors. He also serves the undermanned Hojo during Kai's story in the struggle for Kai province, but defects to the Tokugawa forces due to their superior numbers; a mission is issued to defeat him and Hanzō. During 4, he will be among Nobukimi Anayama's unit at Tenmokuzan and will bar Katsuyori's escape.
At Spirit of the Sanada, Yoshimasa retains his role as one of Shingen's officers. After the losses at Nagashino and the subsequent invasion of Kai, Yoshimasa is one of the retainers to jump ship. After the Oda's demise Yoshimasa serves the Hōjō but is not content with their treatment. If he is approached at Wakamiko by a Sanada officer, he will promise to aid them later on. At Wakamiko, he pushes through with his side of the agreement and joins the Sanada.
Yoshimasa retains his previous roles in Samurai Warriors 5, and works alongside Anayama and Oyamada during their attempt to help Motonobu Okabe at Takatenjin Castle. During Mt. Tenmoku, he is in charge with defending the frontlines against the Oda-Tokugawa army, but surrenders after a show of force and leads the enemy straight to Shinpu Castle.
Quotes[]
- "You are from the Sanada clan, yes? Why does Master Masayuki serve the Hōjō? The Hōjō... They think of us, the men of Shinano, as nothing more than expendable pawns! If the Sanada are ready to break rank from the Hōjō, then we are ready to accompany you."
