Liu Du (onyomi: Ryū Do) is one of the warlords in southern Jing Province and the governor of Lingling. He was eventually conquered by Liu Bei and served Shu.

Role in Games[]

Liu Du appears in Dynasty Warriors 4 during Shu's Jing campaign. He is the commander of Ling Ling and serves as the first target for the Shu forces.

He also makes an appearance in Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires as the ruler of Ling Ling in the Chi Bi scenario.

In Dynasty Warriors 7, Liu Du appears alongside Zhao Fan during the Battle of Fan Castle. He serves the Shu forces in Wei's second part of the battle and defends the gates of the eastern fort south of Fan Castle.

Dynasty Warriors 8 has him appear at Fan Castle again. This time, he directly attacks Cao Ren in Wei's main camp.

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms games have Liu Du appear as an officer of Liu Biao as well as the ruler of Lingling. He is given very low stats, his best being his charisma and politics in the low 50's and high 40's respectively. His strength is fairly low as a result and he is unable to hold his own in battle for a long time. His force is usually one of the first forces to fall during the Rise of Heroes scenario in the eleventh installment.

Historical Information[]

Liu Du served as the Grand Administrator of Lingling when Liu Biao governed Jing Province. When Liu Biao died, his son Liu Cong surrendered to Cao Cao, thus most of Jing fell under his control, including Lingling. After Cao Cao lost the battle of Chibi, his grip on Jing loosened. Liu Bei started an invasion of southern Jing and defeated Liu Du, conquering Lingling in the process.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms[]

In the novel, Liu Du appears in chapter 52 as the Grand Administrator of Lingling as well. When Liu Bei attacked, his son Liu Xian assured him that their officer Xing Daorong would be a match for both Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei. Liu Du sent both his son and Xing Daorong to deal with Liu Bei, but eventually they were defeated and captured. Liu Xian returned to his father and told him that the people of Lingling would be put to death if Liu Du didn't surrender. Liu Du acted at once and surrendered to Liu Bei's forces. He was appointed as Administrator of Liuren and his son served the Shu army.
