He served as a general for his uncle, Sun Quan. Succeeding Sun Yi at a young age, Sun Quan tested his nephew by faking a night attack to check on the commandery's defense, and rewarded his nephew when he confirmed that they were sound.

When Cao Pi's attack on Guangling failed, Sun Shao ordered a raid that nearly led to the Wei emperor's capture.

Roles in Games[]

Sun Shao usually serves as a minor general in Wu appearing sporadically in the middle to later campaigns from his introduction in Dynasty Warriors 3. In Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends he plays an important role at Jiangling. His reinforcements are the first to arrive and he must be protected until they can deliver the supplies to the main camp to bolster the morale of Zhu Ran's men until the main reinforcements led by Ding Feng and Lianshi arrive.

In Warriors Orochi 2, Sun Shao serves as a replacement officer for multiple leading characters in the Wu storyline. The third installment has him take Sun Ce's spot if players have the latter in their attack team.

Historical Information[]

After Sun Yi's death and Sun He's subsequent assassination in 204 at the hands of rebels, Sun Shao assumed control of Danyang commandery's military. Apprehensive about the situation, Sun Quan planned to stage a night raid on Sun Shao's encampment, but found the defenses there to be strong as ever. Pleasantly surprised by this, he had Sun Shao promoted.

When the Wei emperor Cao Pi invaded Sun Shao's territory in 225, he was forced to retreat due to the harsh winter climate. Sun Shao, in the meantime, devised a plan to capture Cao Pi alive and although he managed to obtain carriages and supplies from the Wei lines, he was unable to catch his target.

Regardless, he inflicted a humiliating if minor defeat on Cao Pi, and one of his subordinates even seized Cao Pi's personal parasol. He later participated in battle beneath Lu Fan at Dongkou alongside Xu Shelf and others. Later in life, he and Zhang Cheng were deployed to attack Huaiyin as part of a three-pronged attack against Wei, but the collapse of the other two prongs forced them to withdraw.

It was said that he grew to be incredibly tall, and when Sun Quan saw him after many years, be was astonished by his growth.
