Liushi (劉氏, onyomi: Ryūshi) is Yuan Shao's concubine and the mother of Yuan Shang. She was famously known for plotting with Shen Pei to murder five of her husband's concubines so that her son would be made the family heir.

Role in Games[]

Liushi first appears in the eleventh Romance of the Three Kingdoms title. Her stats tend to be the lowest among the female cast. While her war and leadership ratings are mediocre, the rest of her other stats are average at best. She also has no skills, making her a rather incompetent officer.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms[]

Lady Liu first appears in Chapter 32 the novel where she sends for Shen Pei and Peng Ji during Yuan Shao's final moments. After mourning his death, she had five of his concubines slain and their corpses mutilated beyond recognition. Her son followed suit by executing the relatives of these concubines to prevent them from avenging their dead kin. Afterwards, she and Lady Zhen found refuge in the palace of the Yuans before being discovered by Cao Pi. Enticed by Lady Zhen's beauty, he decided against killing the women and took the younger lady under his care. It is not known what happened with Lady Liu after the incident.

Since his appearance in Dynasty Warriors 2, Lu Weihuang has primarily appeared at the battle of Guandu, either protecting the Wuchao camp as Chunyu Qiong's supporting officer or as a minor defense officer not very far from Wuchao.

Ma Zhong (onyomi: Ba Chū) is an officer of Wu. Historically, he is only briefly mentioned capturing Guan Yu and Guan Ping under the command of Pan Zhang at the battle for Jing Province. The novel gives him a slightly expanded role, in which, Ma kills Huang Zhong during the battle of Yiling. He is, however, killed by both Fu Shiren and Mi Fang when they attempt to rejoin Liu Bei's forces.

Role in Games[]

Ma Zhong sporadically appears in transition stages for Wu ranging from Hefei to Yiling. He isn't given much of an important role until Dynasty Warriors 7, where at Yiling, he ambushes Guan Suo and manages to stop his rampage at the cost of his own life. Even if Ma Zhong survives the encounter, he eventually succumbs to his injuries afterwards.

In Warriors Orochi 2, Ma Zhong serves as Yoshitsune's replacement officer when players assume the latter's role during the Battle of Itsukushima.

Mishi makes her playable debut in the eleventh title of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Like most female officers, she is more inclined to perform well in tasks involving intellect or politics. In the early scenarios, when the player chooses to play as Liu Bei, he can get a special marriage event between Liu Bei and Mishi.

Quan Cong (onyomi: Zen Sō) was a general of the Kingdom of Wu. He participated in the battles against Wei and defeated Xue Qiao at Shiting. His son Quan Yi, along with many other family members, would later defect to Wei during Zhuge Dan's Rebellion. He was married to Sun Quan's daughter Sun Luban.

Earlier Dynasty Warriors games incorrectly localized his name to Quan Zong, but this error has been corrected.

Roles in Games[]

Within the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, Quan Cong is found serving Wu in most scenarios where Sun Quan is the ruler. His stats across the board are above average, falling within the 70's range with politics being his lowest stat around the 60's range.

For the fourteenth title, Quan Cong is noteworthy for possessing several character traits that are beneficial to the domestic output of a city such as increasing the amount of land automatically conquered per turn within an area (Famous), preventing the appearance of bandits (Encouraging) and increasing gold income (Wealthy). For battle, his unit is able to command 1000 more troops (Mobilizer) and will take less damage from traps (Prudent). These factors along with his balanced stats and diverse command of formations including access to Awl and Catapult make Quan Cong a very versatile character be it on or off the battlefield. His administrative policy increases the morale limits for cities and units (Reorganize Military Lv 03).

Qiao Mao (ROTK13)

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII~XIV portrait

Qiao Mao (橋瑁, onyomi: Kyō Bō) is a minor official who joined the campaign against Dong Zhuo. A relative of Qiao Xuan and the Two Qiaos, he was later killed during a dispute with Liu Dai.

Roles in Games[]

Romance of the Three Kingdoms portrays Qiao Mao as a skillful officer who specializes in domestic tasks while doing poorly with military-related ones. He only makes an appearance in early scenarios prior to the formation of the Three Kingdoms.

Historical Information[]

Qiao Mao (?-190), style name: Yuanwei (元偉), a native of Liangzhou, was related to the Han official Qiao Xuan. He gained prestige through his work as inspector of Yan Province and later received a post in Dong Commandery. In 189, he cooperated with He Jin to overthrow the Ten Eunuchs which resulted in Dong Zhuo's rise to power.

To deal with the tyrant, he sent letters to the regional warlords urging them to save Emperor Xian from his oppressor. Led by Yuan Shao, the alliance fought hard to reclaim Luoyang and Chang'an. Right after the Battle of Xingyang, however, an altercation between Qiao Mao and Liu Dai had occurred, resulting in the former's death. He was soon replaced by Wang Gong.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms[]

The novel provides a clear reason for his demise. When the Anti-Dong Zhuo alliance ends, Qiao Mao is visited by Liu Dai who asks for grain to alleviate a famine in his region. Unable to comply with his request, he is killed by Liu Dai's forces who ransack his granaries and absorb most of his own troops.
