Name roughly translates as "furnace". Also might be a reference to the painstaking "tatara iron method" in Japanese blacksmithing.

Tatara (たたら) is a secondary character who resides in Utakata Village. The player can find him to the right of their protagonist's home.

Role in Games

In Utakata Village, there's only one blacksmith named Tatara. He can make anything his clients want, like weapons, armor, and his famous Tenko ornaments. Although he may seem tough, he puts all his heart and effort into his work. One villager wants to be his apprentice, but it might take him years to be good enough. In Kiwami, when Izuchikanata is taking over his soul, he thinks humans have won against demons and drinks a lot.

Requests

The protagonist can complete his chain of personal requests to greatly boost their affinity ratings with him. His requests are clearly labeled with his name in each posting. They must be completed in consecutive order.

Higher affinity additionally increases the chances of him appearing within the village's bathing area.

Function

Give him the required amount of haku and gather the necessary materials to create weapons and armor. As you advance in the main story, you will unlock new equipment. You can find the recipes for any item in his shop menu. The prices for each creation are listed.

Once the player has created a weapon or piece of armor, they can continue to upgrade it. The maximum upgrade is Level 9. They can only upgrade it by obtaining the necessary parts again. After the main story, players can automatically upgrade certain weapons to a higher level if they have enough parts available.

Weapon fusions can be upgraded by Tatara. Upgrading the Slayers' personal weapons doesn't change their elemental properties or base attack, but it can increase their soul count and critical attack rate.
