Yang Huai (onyomi: Kō Hai) is a general loyal to Liu Zhang. He and Gao Pei were tasked with guarding Boshui Pass from Zhang Lu's army until Liu Bei caught them off guard. Refusing to surrender, they were both executed under the excuse of being discourteous to Liu Bei.
The novel has him conspire with Gao Pei to fake their surrender and kill Liu Bei, though the farce is exposed due to Pang Tong's insight. The two of them are then beheaded for their treachery.
Role in Games[]
While his appearance is limited, Yang Huai is rarely seen without Gao Pei throughout the Dynasty Warriors series. He is present as an ambush unit during Shu's Campaign for Cheng Du battle in Dynasty Warriors 4; the player must stop him from attacking Liu Bei near the allied main camp. Xtreme Legends includes him and his partner in the Battle of Jia Meng Gate; defeating them under 5 minutes is essential in order to unlock the Horseshoes item.
The seventh title has him bar Zhuge Liang's path during the Battle of Luo Castle. In the eighth title, he and Gao Pei trick Liu Bei into entering one of Liu Zhang's garrisons by staging their defection.
Dynasty Warriors: Unleashed has him and Gao Pei attempt to trap Liu Bei only to be foiled by the player's efforts and Fa Zheng's insight. He is especially offended by Liu Bei's call for peace, condemning him for hypocritically invading Liu Zhang's realm.
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms series depicts Yang Huai as a capable officer with balanced stats. His best traits are intelligence and war, making him a good choice for supporting the player's attack forces.
