Yoshiaki Mogami is the eleventh leader of the Mogami clan and Masamune's uncle. Renowned for his political influence and wealth, he doubled as a courageous warrior and commander. Known by the nickname "The Fox of Ushu", he has a mixed reputation in fictional sources. He is either depicted as a benevolent and wise ruler or as a shrewd, villainous man who didn't fight at all.

His Nobunaga's Ambition counterpart is twenty-eighth place in Gamecity's character popularity ranking for 2015. He placed twenty-eighth in the Nobunaga no Yabou Taishi poll for most favorite father.

Role in Games[]

In Samurai Warriors 2, Yoshiaki is one of the commanders at Hasedō. When Kanetsugu and Keiji hear of Mitsunari's defeat at Sekigahara, they stop their siege at Hasedō and choose to retreat. As Masamune arrives to help him, Yoshiaki appears at the fifth gate to stop their escape. During the Date scenario, Yoshiaki is a head-strong and stubborn commander who is a little too demanding for his subordinates' obedience. Masamune considers him a hassle but supports him due to their family ties. He also appears to support the Tokugawa in various hypotheticals such as Edo Castle and Ieyasu's resistance at Kawanakajima against a pre emptive Uesugi raid. For Samurai Warriors 3, he stays within his castle and fights to stop Kanetsugu from entering. In Samurai Warriors 4, his role remains similar where he remains in the castle but the Mogami are visually distinct from the Date. He also opposes Masamune in his rise and leads a coalition of Tohoku warlords at Koriyama such as the Ashina and Satake in a decisive conflict. He declares his allegiance to his nephew afterwards.

In Kessen, Yoshiaki appears late in the game to assist Ieyasu in his final battles.

It is his portrait that assumed it was published in 1892.

He was the first son of Mogami Yoshimori and have the born name as Hakujumaru (白寿丸). In 1560, he received a new name from the shōgun as Yoshiaki. In March of the same year, he led the army to attack Sagae Castle. In 1563, he and his father went to pay homage to the shōgun in Kyōto. In 1564, he gives Lady Yoshi who was his younger sister to married with Date Terumune.

In 1570, Yoshiaki have conflict with his father, so his father decided to give Yoshiaki become the leader clan. In 1571, Yoshiaki become the leader and his father moved to be priest of buddhism and used name as Eirin (栄林). In 1574, he must confront Date who wants to restore power to Yoshimori. In that battle, he was able to stop enemy invasions in four ways who led by Tendō Yorisada, Shiratori Nagahisa, Kurazō Yorizane and Nobesawa Mitsunobu. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Nagano Yoshitoki has rebel against him but he able to defeat Nagano and forced Nagano to commit suicide.

Although Yoshiaki won but there are still some people who still do not accept him. Even there is a story that Shiratori Nagahisa sent a letter to Oda Nobunaga, to inform the royal court to give rank Dewa-no-Kami (出羽守) to himself. As a result, Yoshiaki made improvements to both the law and the military in order to build stability for Mogami clan.

In 1575, he and his wife, Shakumyōei (釈妙英) have the first son who name is Yoshiyasu. In 1577, Tendō Yorisada apologized to him, by give his daughter, Tendō Gozen to be a concubine. Which Yoshiaki received.

In 1578, Kaminoyama Mitsukane has attacked the Mogami clan's territory under the support of Date. Lady Yoshi did not allow war, so she ordered Terumune and Yoshiaki to make peace. In 1580, he get help from Satomi Minbu (里見民部). Allowing him to successfully take over the Kaminoyama Castle. Kaminoyama Mitsukane so commit suicide.

In 1581, he has expanded its power to Murayama district and take over Oguni Castle. Meanwhile, the samurai of Onodera clan, Sakenobe Hidetsuna has joined Mogami clan. In 1582, Yoshiaki have the second son who name is Iechika and have the third son who name is Shimizu Yoshichika.

In 1583, Daihōji Yoshiuji has announced a battle with the Mogami clan. Mogami use the plan to have Tōzenji Yoshinaga separate from Daihōji. As a result, Daihōji was defeated and commit suicide. In 1584, Yoshiaki want Shiratori Nagahisa's daughter to married with his eldest son, Yoshiyasu but Shiratori refused. Yoshiaki decided kill Shiratori. Yoshiaki then attacked Sagae clan and Sagae Takamoto commit suicide. Yoshiaki then attack Tendō Yorizumi who was the son of Tendō Yorisada. Later, Yoshiaki give his daughter, Princess Matsuo (松尾姫) to married with Nobesawa Mitsumasa who was the son of Nobesawa Mitsunobu. In addition, Higashine Kageyori who was the former vassal of Higashine Yorikage was appointed by Mogami to help attack the Higashine Castle from the within. Later, Yorizumi fled to territory of Kokubun Morishige, make Tendō clan has fallen.

In 1586, Yoshiaki fight against Onodera Yoshimichi. Meanwhile, Yoshiaki's eldest son, Yoshiyasu and Tateoka Mitsushige succeed defeat the Onodera reinforcement.

In 1587 - 1589, Yoshiaki has a conflict with Uesugi Kagekatsu and Date Masamune. In the part of the battle against Date, he won the Ōsaki War but the war was stopped by Lady Yoshi. In May, 1589. The conflict between Mogami and Date has ended when Katakura Kagetsuna has defeat Ashina Yoshihiro.

Later, he surrendered to the Toyotomi. During that time, he give his daughter, Princess Koma to married with Toyotomi Hidetsugu who was nephew of Hideyoshi. But then, when Hidetsugu was forced to commit suicide by Hideyoshi in August 20, 1595. Koma was also ordered to commit suicide in September. When Yoshiaki heard of Koma's death, causing him to inflict a grudge against Toyotomi and later he and Date Masamune joined Eastern Army.

He later became the Daimyō of Yamagata Domain and rule there until his death at the age of 68. The Mogami Yoshiaki Historical Museum is considered one of the memorials to commemorate him.
