Zhu Bao (onyomi: Shu Hō) is a Shu officer who joined Yong Kai and Gao Ding's rebellion. He eventually lost his life due to a plot by Zhuge Liang.

Role in Games[]

The Dynasty Warriors series has Zhu Bao appear as a generic officer in Nanman-related battles. While he and his cohorts side with Meng Huo in almost every installment, the fifth title portrays them as intruding adversaries for the Nanman in the Struggle for Nan Zhong stage.

In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, his decent leadership and war stats make him a suitable choice for battles.

Historical Information[]

When Liu Bei died at around 223, the chieftain Yong Kai took the opportunity to revolt against Shu Han and swore allegiance to Sun Quan. He called upon Meng Huo to assist him in persuading like-minded barbarians to join their revolution. One of the men who responded was none other than Zhu Bao.

While stationed at Zangke Commandery in 225, Zhu Bao was attacked by Ma Zhong who had been sent by Zhuge Liang to help pacify the people of Nanzhong. Although he was defeated, his true cause of death remains a mystery.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms[]

Zhu Bao first appears in the story during the first half of chapter 87. He and the rebels struggle to thwart the more organized Shu forces, unaware of Zhuge Liang's plan to turn them against one another. Accused by Gao Ding of selling him out to the Prime Minister, the astonished Zhu Bao is struck down by E Huan. His and Yong Kai's heads are then brought to Zhuge Liang as peace offerings.
