Jin Xuan (onyomi: Kin Sen) is the Governor of Wuling in Jing Province. He was shot and killed by Gong Zhi after ignoring a suggestion to surrender to Zhang Fei.

Role in Games

In Dynasty Warriors 4, Gong Zhi suggests to Jin Xuan that he should surrender, but he does not listen and charges out of Wu Ling to fight Zhang Fei in Liu Bei's campaign in Southern Jing. Wu Ling can be taken if Jin Xuan is killed.

He appears in Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires as the ruler of Wu Ling in the Chi Bi scenario.

Jin Xuan also appears in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games. He starts out as an officer of He Jin during the Yellow Turban Rebellion and becomes a free officer in the following scenarios, wandering the area around Chang'an. He eventually ends up serving Liu Biao and becomes the ruler of Wuling in the Three Visits scenario. He is also the ruler of Wuling in the Rise of Heroes scenario. Jin Xuan has average battle skills, which makes him the best fighter out of the four minor warlords of southern Jing, but his intelligence and politics are fairly low in comparison.

Quotes

  • "Lord Jin Xuan, for the people's sake, we must surrender!"
"Humph! I am not afraid of Liu Bei! Open the gate!"
~~ Gong Zhi and Jin Xuan; Dynasty Warriors 4

Historical Information

Jin Xuan was a minor warlord affiliated with the imperial court. He was born in Jingzhao, Si Province and was a descendant of Han official Jin Midi. After taking some appointments in the Han imperial court, such as becoming "Gentleman of the Yellow Gate", "Consultant" and "General of the Household", he served as Administrator of Wuling Commandery until the year 209 when Liu Bei initiated an attack on Jing Province. As a result, Jin Xuan was forced to defend his territory and lost to Liu Bei's forces. He eventually surrendered Wuling to Liu Bei, but was killed nonetheless.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms

In chapter 53 of the novel, Jin Xuan was set on defending Wuling from the forces of Zhang Fei sent by Liu Bei. He almost executed his officer Gong Zhi for suggesting surrender as their only option. Upon greeting their invaders outside the city walls, he was greatly frightened by Zhang Fei's roar to the point of fleeing back inside. He was shot in the face by Gong Zhi who censured his lord for not yielding when he had the chance. With his head presented to Zhang Fei, the position of governor was now given to Gong Zhi by Liu Bei.
