Expanding the ArticlesEdit

Hey guys,it's GreatPanda.Just joined out of the love I have It'd be Super Special Awesome if some of the character and video game articles could be expanded on.Some articles the Wiki has no need for in my opinion, like DW4: XL.The meat of the Dynasty Warriors 6 article is the character roster, while the DW6: Special is bone bare.Perhaps we could merge articles,i.e main games and expansions. It decreases the amount of articles, but the quality increases.

Edit

The logo is getting a bit expired. I propose a logo submission of sorts?  Whoppe 23:30, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Expanding scope Edit

This is a summary of the discussion that began on User talk:Whopper. Please make any corrections/updates to the summary as necessary. -PanSola 08:29, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

  • All participants of the discussion feel expanding the wiki beyond just Dynasty Warriors is a good idea.
  • Proposal 1: expand to cover all "Warriors" (Musou) franchise by KOEI
    • Concerns: "KOEI Warriors", the most natural name, is used by a prominent fansite and we don't want to be rude.

hey ppl im new and i luv dynasty warriors especially 5 its awesum to bad about the changes to the characters in 6 though so if ny1 wants 2 talk just message me :P

      • Can use other names
  • Proposal 2: expand to cover all games by KOEI
    • Concerns: a lot of KOEI games are not Sangoku (3 Kingdoms era in China, eg Dynasty Warriors) / Sengoku (Warring States era in Japan, eg Samurai Warriors) related, and many are quite dull
      • This particular editor group can simply focus on the subset of KOEI games that interest them (Warriors, ROTK, NA), and allowing the room for other KOEI games to be added by other KOEI fans.
Download GimpShop. Its pretty much the same layout and features, and it is free and legal! :P lu-xun 19:34, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Further discussion/Ideas Edit

Re-pasting the conceptual art for the logo:

KOWiki

Once expanded, individual series' should have their own portal page, with all portals prominently linked to from the main page. There should also be prominent indication on the Main Page for games not belonging to any series, so any visitors interested in those games will feel appreciated and more likely contribute. -PanSola 08:36, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I found (with the help of Angela) some unicodes that aren't perfect, but come kinda close to what I want (as far as text characters go). Testing:

  1. KOຕIki
  2. KOﻉIki

(the unicode for 1 actually doesn't show up for me...) -PanSola 11:34, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

That looks good. I think whith a but of GFX it could work :D --Luxun
Do you think "KOﻉIki" can be used for the Project namespace as well as Sitename (as in will it look ok)? If so, I'd also like to update the text in the titlebar to be "<fullpagename> - KOﻉIki - the KOEI Wiki from Wikia". BTW, samuraiwarriors.wikia and warriorsorochi.wikia should be pointing here as soon as the DNS cache gets updated. -PanSola 12:49, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Ofcourse, like I said it just needs nlarged and photoshopped a bit :D I can do a few very simple images but Im no expert... User:Luxun
User:Acid Rain has offered to make logos, and not to insult either of yalls skills, but if he knows how to do it, maybe we should get him to design it. Dabigbozz42 02:19, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
As for the text, KOﻉIki is good, or a simple koeiwiki, either works Dabigbozz42 02:21, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure why Luxun is talking about images ("nlarged and photoshopped") when I asked a question/opinion purely about text stuff (project namespace and sitename are pure text, no images involved)... And I never implied anything about wanting to do the logo myself... o_O""" I'm just re-posting the concept design above because I'm trying to summarize everything here. -PanSola 13:38, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh I thought you meant using it for like a banner or something...

Luxun - Kowiki sig

I rustled up this but as I said before Im definately no expert at graphics and its extremely basic...--Luxun

MysoundtrackArmy says: I think the logo above is fine, I quite like it. Also, if we are so choosing to make it a "Koeiki" then, perhaps we should begin on the other segments. I think we should at least add Warriors Orochi to the list of Dynasty Warriors games since in all actuallity it is Dynasty.

Sorry to say this but that image looks really bad. I made it very quickly so I can make better others if you want. Koeiki

Well, if we're using this style of logo with characters, we need some SW, WO, and Bladestorm on it perhaps? Dabigbozz42 22:49, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I LOVE THAT NEW ONE! I will say. I agree with Dabigbozz42. We need other Koei games if we are going to be a true "Koeiki". A sugguestion, use 1 easily identified character from each of the Warriors and maybe some from Bladestorm and Gitaroo Man as well? -MySoundtrackArmy

Ok. Hope this is ok.

Wow. Each time it gets better. You must really be good at Photoshop. I'm going to be starting on the Samurai Warriors sections since well... we ARE going to change, right? >_< Keep me posted if possible. Thank you for taking my info. ^_^ -MySoundtrackArmy

I am beginning on the Samurai Warriors section of the Koeiki and any information to be used is very welcome. ^_^ Thank you! -MySoundtrackArmy

Hey I said I was a noob at photoshop :P And I cant crop for the life of me :P lu-xun 19:28, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, while we've got all this creative energy flowing, could someone perhaps make some portal logos? also, unless we plan on switching the default wiki format to the gaming template, the logos need to be more square. but keep the creativity flowing, i would contribute as i am decent with photoshop, yet I only have paint :( Dabigbozz42 22:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

just tell me what game portals u want to includ so that i'll make the logos. i think i should make em as wide as the article width
User:EvanescentUser talk:EvanescentEvanescent
04:35, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
for portals, we can just have the big franchises for now.
  • Dynasty Warriors
  • Samurai Warriors
  • Dynasty Warriors: Gundam
  • Warriors Orochi
  • Romance of the 3 Kingdoms
  • Nobunaga's Ambition

and your right about portal logo size, the page width would look nice, but for the general logo, our current wikipedia style layout works better with a square logo. Dabigbozz42 13:09, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

? i think the default skin for everyone is monaco, so the the wiki wide logo would be better. anyway, i can make both so that eveything is ok. i'll make the other portal logos as soon as i can.

So...Edit

I'm a new user (not new to wikis though (see this page) and I was wondering how things were progressing on the merging of the wikis? Is is still going ahead? Aeonlord92

So, I know I haven't been on in a long time but... I agree with Aeonlord92. Are we still going to merge the wikis and make the Koeiki? I'll continue to add things as I can. Anyone else still working on this? o_O

I'm still here, I just can't edit & do the weapon tables I'm doing ATM because my computer's bust so my Wii is my only way here. And from a wii I can't upload images or make excessively large edits. I should be back soon though. Aeonlord92

Despite my best hopes to have a free summer, summer school has limited that freedom and now I'm going on vacation in a few days, and have lost some current intrest in the games, but I'll try to help out at least a bit in the last few days I have. As for the merger, all the other wikis already point here, so we're cleared for everything else, the only thing undecided on was the name and banner. All respect to Whopper, but hes not on much at all, so I've found its best to just blaze along and not worry about authorization and if there are problems, cooperation can work them out. Dabigbozz42 02:12, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about the long absense, but I should be somewhat semi-active, however there are no promises I can be fully active as I work rather long hours. I just fully completed Dynasty Warriors 6, got all characters, all weaponry, and will update some of the staging pages. Anyways apologies for my absense. Whopper user talk 16:41, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

AdminshipEdit

I asked about this on Wikia central & told to ask about this here.

Recently, in the past 2 months, the regular editors have become less main & the only active Admin is Whopper & even he isn't very active. This isn't your fault or a fault, heck there are many reasons why you may be unable to edit or actively contribute.

Anyway, with the lack of admins many things cannot be done, such as deletions & vandal fighting, things neccessary for maintaing a good wiki. Also, with the lack of regular editors this wiki is hard to build up & improve.

Basically, I'm suggesting that more Admins are needed &, though it may seem rude, I suggest myself, but before you say "What a demanding, arrogant, self-centered, bastard" hear me out first.

I reverted (with time & slavery) a vandal attack on June 23rd, I have added many things in my time on this wiki - images, article expansions, Categorizing & templates that can help the wiki - and I'm not going anywhere, I have loads of free time & can easily & actively contribute & maintain the wiki.

However, I know there are more longer serving editors - Dabigbozz & luxun among others - who also deserve it & I don't deny you should. Basically, an active Admin is needed to fight against vandals and to help maintain areas of the wiki that a normal editor cannot do.

So what do people think of admining the active & long serving editors: Dabigbozz, luxun & Myself, Dabigbozz & luxun for their long time dedication & Myself for my activeness & desire to maintain & build up this wiki?

What do you say, for the sake of the wiki?

Once a decision has been made, or 1-2 weeks have passed, I shall report back to wikia. --Aeonlord92

It seems like you're selling me and Luxuns dedication a bit short don't you think? :)
I had noticed this would be a problem when I started editing here all by myself and noticed that whopper is not able to be on enough to fully maintain this place. I didn't say anything for the reasons you've stated: I did not want to look like a demanding, arrogant, self-centered, bastard, but you've gone and taken the fall for me Aeon so thats all good :)
I can't speak for Luxun in any of this; he can get his two-bits in if he shows back up. I think you and I would both agree that the duties of an admin are akin to a janitor, and since we only have specific problems, either of us could probably do the job just as well, and admin shouldn't be some big important title, so I'm not going to try to sell myself, just address some concerns that I would have if I were Whopper. Recently circumstances keep preventing me from being as frequent so now I'm taking kind of a back seat to Aeon which is fine, it can be like a little vacation with him doing all the good work, but I'm trying to be more active (how many times have I said it now?) and having the duty would give me a purpose to get on when I do have time and am prioritizng different.
Also, I'm weak at writing impromptu, which is most of my actual wiki writing; I'm better at the other end of the scale, with category organization, templates, infoboxes, lists, facts, and the like. While I don't know what Aeon considers his strengths, he seems to be skilled in the same areas as well, plus he is much more experienced; my background is a short and shameful stint on wikipedia which caused me to come searching for a budding wikia that I could aid.
So, It comes down to whoever whopper thinks can be an active maintainer or just his personal preference. It might seem hypocritical to write so much about something that I have stated is not a big deal, but I thought I should lay things out. Whoever

is admin, us active users need to communicate and collaborate rather than going through cumbersome bureaucracy. Dabigbozz42 13:20, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Sorry if it seemed I was selling your dedication short.
So your view is that another Admin/s is needed to help with Maintainance? That's 2-0 in favour of another Admin/s.
My Strengths I would say is actually writing articles and making them a better structure. I'm good at organising things and tidying things up. Templates is an issue for me as I'm not an expert on coding. So yeah, my stregths are articles and tidying.
The question is 'What now?', I mean neither of us have any idea when Whopper or anybody else's next visit will be so we could be left with this issue for months. So should I go and see on wikia what should be done? Or do you think we should wait a bit longer? --Aeonlord92
I know you weren't selling dedication short, just your wording was a bit funny so my sarcastic side had to make a snide comment :)
It seems that we share tidying and organizational skills, so my point about us both being qualified seems to stand. I have some bizarre probably partial OCD quality, where I actually get a rush from doing menial organization and maintenance, both digitally and in the real world, so I find that's where I drift towards.
I'll try to see if he ever gets on IRC, but maybe in the meantime, you should see if wikia has some standards for temporary admins that we could use to pick someone until we make contact with whopper. Dabigbozz42 13:54, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't think there is the ability to make temperorary Admins... But I'll ask on Wikia for what they think we should do next. Oh, and I made a new sig.--Aeonlord92
Alright I seen my name quite alot in that and I am truly honoured :P But really I don't think I deserve adminship. I mean I vanished twice, and although I have contributed alot I have also neglected the wiki. I really like DW but sometimes it just sort of drifts away and I lose interest. I always regain my interest (hence I return) but I have to admit making me an admin is a risk. Although if I stick around long enough I might feel better about the situation. If it helps my strengths include organizing and tidying up. And I love making new articles :P Coding however is not my thing :P And I have some admin experience at forums. And although wikis are entirely different it still counts for somthing :P Not to repeat myself but I don't really think that adminship of this wiki is for me quite yet :)- lu-xun 20:57, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Other Dynasty Warriors WikiEdit

While searching for some info, I stumbled across a neoseeker wiki on Dynasty Warriors here. They seem to be more focused on faq type info, item locations and the like, but maybe we can collaborate on something., anyway just thought it was worthy of note Dabigbozz42 21:28, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I dunno. They're not the official wiki on Dynasty Warriors stuff, just a gamesite one that they made. There's no reason we can't work on FAQ type stuff also (heck we've got DW4 walkthroughs), as long as it's ours & not stolen ;)
I'm just gonna keep working for now on here getting alll our articles neat and tidy. --Aeonlord92

Time AwayEdit

Sorry I have not been on as much as I would like to. I do feel that with summer coming to a close and all that I may be able to get a good grip on getting some things in while I can. I am going to be having internet off and on for a little while so I do not expect much. I shall be editing when I can and hoping for the betterment of the Wiki. Though, I do agree there should be at least one "full time" admin. I was thinking this back in about June. ^_^ Anyhow, Once again, I am sorry for my absences even though I'm not a "regular" on here. - MySoundtrackArmy

Welcome back. Dabigbozz and I are now Admins & thus can maintain the wiki quite well - at least until/if Whopper returns. --Aeonlord92 08:00, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

That is indeed wonderful to hear! As I said, I shall edit when I can. And I think I might have missed this memo but... there's an IRC channel?

I'm going awayEdit

I'm going on Holiday from the 12th to the 19th so I'll be in-active during this time. -- Aeonlord92

A MySpace?Edit

I don't know why exactly but... I was thinking of making us a MySpace. I remember there was talk of using YouTube earlier in the year... I'm sure there's more Koei Warriors fans than just us here. I know there are. I was just thinking that a site on all the major social networking sites might be a good thing. That way we can get more people on here and we can also get information from people that aren't here as well. And it might be little easier for everyone to communicate than just using this. Like I said... it was a random thought. But still... what do you people think? -MySoundtrackArmy 12:01, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Um... since on one got back to me on that... I'll just make one and see what you guys think... >,< -208.54.14.31 07:31, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm back now! Sorry, it's taken me a while to get back and sort everything out - I was quite busy since I got back. Anyway, sounds like a good idea to do a myspace - it should hopefully attract people. Go ahead and do it --Aeonlord92 09:56, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

It's good to see someone back. ^_^ Anyhow, I'm currently working on it. I need to make it sparkle though. If anyone can get a good background to use then I'm game. ^_^ I believe I put the URL as www.myspace.com/koeiwarrirswiki. Right now I know it isn't much but I only made it a couple days ago and I have school now so... I'll hopefully have it "open" around next week or so. ^_^ -MySoundtrackArmy 02:45, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

First, just in case someone uses that link and can't find out why it dosent work (hopefully people are smarter than that but whatever) there is an o in warriors so the actual link is www.myspace.com/koeiwarriorswiki. no fault on your part soundtrack, im just preparing for people who wonder why the link don't work.

A myspace is good for getting people together, and a youtube would be nice to, although im not so sure what would go on it...

But to answer your question about other fans out there, one of the largest and better communities is KoeiWarriors, and they also have a myspace, so im thinking rather than try to compete with them, we should see if we could affiliate and maybe see if some members are interested in helping out here. I also get the feeling we're going to be getting a lot of material from Koei Warriors anyway, so we should be sure to source stuff.

But apart from KoeiWarriors, we can also try to affiliate with smaller sites as well, and ive tried some techniques that are supposed to help traffic, but really what we need are contributors, and we can find contributors in the ranks of the serious fans, who are already with these communities.

Anyway, I know quite a bit of html and how to work with the myspace editors, so I can help in anyway you want.

And I see what I did wrong with the gallerys, thanks Aeon, I'll be sure to fix them if i see them or make more. Dabigbozz42 14:16, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

That sounds good. I'm sure someone here can smooth talk them (KoeiWarriors) into affiliation. ^_^ I know I haven't been able to get much done on the MySpace. I just can't find the time with my slow internet connection... T-T DaBigBozz, I'll IM you the logon info for the MySpace through an IM on AIM or Yahoo. I'm SickOfTheWorldXD on AIM or iamsadlynotthemovie on Yahoo!. ^_^ -{User:MySoundTrackArmy|MySoundtrackArmy]

GrowthEdit

I must comment on how much this wikia has grown since I first started on as a anonymous user. It has doubled, and grows faster all the time. I'm expecting 300 pages by the end of the week. Soon we'll hit 500 and be reconized; good work everybody. Well I'm very happy.Moogle Buddy 20:28, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Remember though, article numbers mean nothing if the quality of them is poor, not that I'm trying to get your spirits down of course.--Aeonlord92
Well that's gone up too, when I first came here the character articles had the in game biography and movelist, that's it. I believe Lu Bu was the only good one, the featured article for at least a year. Then again there are a few empty article around that, I should look at them.Moogle Buddy 13:33, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

New skinEdit

Hi!

Several months ago, Wikia released a new site skin called Monaco. The new skin features tools which make it much easier for visitors to find content and edit it. You can read all about Monaco here. As you can read on that page, while you will still be able to select Monobook (this wiki's current default skin) as the skin you personally use to view the site (via Special:Preferences), we are no longer able to support Monobook as a default skin for anonymous visitors. So, we need to change the default skin to Monaco.

There are a number of pre-built themes for Monaco. Check out how the homepage looks in Sapphire, Jade, Slate, Smoke, Beach, and Brick, and let me know which one you like best. In addition to those pre-built themes, you can build your own custom themes as well. Check out the custom themes on the Shaiya Wiki and the Diablo Wiki. You can learn about customizing the theme, menus and other aspects of Monaco here.

Take a look at that information, and let me know which theme you think might work best. We need to change the skin by Friday, October 31st, so I am here to make that transition as easy as possible. Let me know if you have any questions, or if I can help in any way.

Thanks! --KyleH@fandom (talk) 23:22, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I remember this situation on the FFWiki... Anyways, I personally like either Slate or Sapphire best, for now I've set Sapphire as the defualt skin, just-in-case no users reply to this before October 31st. However, once a verdict has been reached I'll change it to what we decide on.
Another thing, if we decide that none of the default skins are appropriate I can always make us a custom skin.--Aeonlord92
Great! If you need any help with a custom skin, let me know and I'll see what I can do. :) --KyleH@fandom (talk) 17:25, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Customising the wiki (Applies to Monobook skin users only)Edit

As the wiki has grown I would like to request that we improve its appearance.

Okay, to the point, what I would someone to make us is a banner that can go across the top of the page. For an example see here for an example of what I mean (notice the blue crystals in the background?)

So if someone could make us something like that (approximate dimensions of the iamge should be 838px × 137px) it would be really helpful and would improve the look of the site.--Aeonlord92 16:52, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Just adding on, I'm also looking for someone who could make a 88x31 px box with the site name and some imagery or whatnot, for affiliation purposes Dabigbozz42 15:42, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'll try to do that as we still have to submit that button to koeiwarriors.co.uk - almost forgot about that aspect. I will also make a few mock-banners that are meant for suggestions. :) Whopper user talk 21:47, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Anyone alive?Edit

Is anyone still alive? It seems Me and Dabigbozz are the really only ones here for the last month. It seems kind of lonely here. Meh, probably going to get yelled at, but It'd kinda be nice to see a face here, any face. Moogle Buddy 23:38, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm alive! :D Just lurking. - lu-xun 16:49, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey everyone Im The Great Sage (please excuse the pompous username ^_^) But I just signed up because I feel that this wiki like others can be used as a resource to other DW fans, and I feel that the site could use some updates, so I signed up to help contribute to the site! (also I know how to use photoshop, plus I got a friend who can do it as well.) 2/4/09

Banners Edit

Are we still working on banners? I have gotten alot better and I could try a few things if you guys are still up for it - lu-xun 16:58, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Help!Edit

We have an idiot infestion at the moment. People keep changing articles(with profanity and such garbag) who are anonomous, and creating new page made of profanity and such. I can deal with most of the editted pages, but I can't delete the new articles. Admin help would really be nice. Moogle Buddy 18:06, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I need some help deleting some articles as well. GreatPanda
Time is finally freeing up to let me get back, hopefully I will be able to do some good contributions on wednesday at the earliest, but in the meantime if you use the "report problem" button at the bottom of an article, it will get listed and one of us if we get on can delete it, and if theres a repeat vandal ip, send that over. Hope to be back soon. Also, nice work your doing on kunoichi, moogle. Dabigbozz42 03:54, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm also sorry for not being to come online very much (hard enough getting time to write even this).
If you put {{delete}} on the page you wish to delete it wil be put in a category for articles, etc, that are due for deletion and when an admin gets on they can do the appropriate action. As for vandals just send an admin a messsage on thier user talk page about who it is and what they are doing and again one of us will sort it.
Once again I apologise for my lack of activity but life is so hecktic at the moment.--Aeonlord92

Saihai no YukueEdit

In other words, the recent DS adventure game that Koei released in Japan. It's based on Sekigahara so Mitsunari and Ieyasu's men are in there. My question is simple: yeah or nay? I'm only wondering because its an unpopular genre for localization efforts so it may not come over here. Sake neko 01:25, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Article Organization, Rude IPs, and Other ThingsEdit

First ff, about the Rude IPs - The IP, [76.246.190.142‎], has fully deleted Gao Shun's article. First, he/she had deleted everything, and added a -WHAT?. But after that, he/she had the nerve to fully delete everything altogether. There was another IP that effectively called Zhang He and Kojiro Sasaki "gay", but, that's nothing to worry about[and I changed the quote, anyways]. Just youthful confusion. I think we should discuss the organization of articles. The Style page ells what to include, but not how to format it. The format that Moogle Buddy ingeniously made, and I use is:

  • 1 Historical Information
  • (2 Romance of the Three Kingdoms)
  • 3 Characteristics
  • 4 Gameplay
  • 5 Weapon Guide
  • 6 Role in Games
  • 7 Gallery

,while some older articles as well as Sake neko's format consist of:

  • 1 Role in Plot
  • 2 Character Information
  • 3 Quotes
  • 4 Gameplay
  • 5 Weapons
  • 6 Historical Information
  • 7 Gallery

Yeah, personally I would like to see the Historical Information on the top, and lists, such as Quotes and the Gallery at the bottom. But that's just my opinion. What are yours?

Also, while I use the term "Characteristics", some other articles use the term "Character Information". Personally, I think the latter term is too broad, as "Character Information" could have such things in it, such as historical information, weapon information, RotK information, and the like. I just wanted to know what you guys thought, which term should we/the articles use? GreatPanda 20:59, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

I also think the style guide needs more work to it. Moving Development underneath gameplay breaks the flow of the article when the developers are talking about the character specifically. I personally think the characteristics/character info is meant to talk more about the character themselves, not necessarily about their fighting style and weapons. Like how Zhen Ji was originally a classy woman but became more sassy in her later English appearances.
I'm actually not quite sold on including every aspect of the gameplay and weapon info on the same page. Especially for the Dynasty Warriors characters who have been in more games. They change and get tweaked so often that it seems a bit too much to include every minute detail on the same page. I'd rather that it be a general description on the character's article and then a link to a longer and more detailed article. Something like:
Fighting Style
See Also: [[Lu Bu's Fighting Style]] <- this will go more depth with tweaks and changes in all of his game appearances.
Lu Bu often has the most powerful stats in the Dynasty Warriors series. His attacks are quick, powerful, and have an overall good coverage of the field. He is easy to use for both newcomers and veteran players, whether he is on foot or mounted on a horse... ect.
While fighting against a CPU Lu Bu... ect.
Weapons
See Also: [[Lu Bu's Weapons]] <- this will include other weapons, strategies for rare ones, and other characteristics about their weapons like recommended stats in Warriors Orochi or others.
(Include a chart from the most recent game; DW6 should be in here even if it only has three weapon types)
That's what I suggest for the characters who have been in more than two games at least. It'll be easier to read. I think it's important to establish Koei's interpretations for the characters before going in depth with what they actually did in history. It'll be easier for new fans to get an idea of who they're reading about. Basically, I would rather make the article organization more like:
  • Role in Games <- try to include all majorly different scenarios + dream stages
  • Character Info
    • Development
    • All costumes/Alternate Appearances <- though I really think this can be removed if someone can get a picture of these for the gallery section

Anyways, I haven't been here that long so I can't really say much more than this. Sake neko 01:17, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Of course we shouldn't include every aspect of a character's gameplay, just focus on the more recent game that have depth to it, like Warriors Orochi, or Samurai Warriors 2/Dynasty Warriors 5. Though we also shouldn't be limited to including the older games' style as well, since this is a Wiki. In my opinion, a Wiki should scope through almost every nook and cranny of a subject, going in-depth and in your face. Not to put down anyone, but I don't think we should need a separate page for one character's Weapons in the series, or Fighting Style. The two latters could be included in "Character Info"/"Characteristics". The articles would be too small, unless we had great analysts, who would give a good two paragraphs or so of just one incarnation of a weapon. It'd be more acceptable to me if we could actually have someone dedicate their time to just do that. Also, for some reason, I really don't like having Historical Information or RotK information at the bottom, it just makes those two seem so insignificant to a character. GreatPanda 21:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
I don't think the historical info and novel info being on the bottom undermines their importance really. I think it's more to avoid confusion with what changes Koei did more than anything else. Sake neko 22:34, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
  • One question I myself have is how indepth do we want to go in gameplay. I put suggestions sometimes if I am extremely well versed in a character but always if I do that put a disclaimer of sorts of this is just a suggestion. Do we we want to add a walkthrough like synopsis of character gameplay? Or just moveset overview. Just my question to all this, and GreatPanda you really do give to much credit for

the format-->Thanks! Moogle Buddy 03:06, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, basically the term 'suggestion' should automatically tell a reader that it's recommended from an "expert", not required. Therefore, I don't really think there needs to be a disclaimer. Now, for how much we want to get indepth of a character's gameplay. I'm not in any superior rank or anything, but what I'd like to go for is just a good-sized moveset overview, with weapon suggestions and whatnot. We could analyze most Tri attacks for a character, match it's uses and group it with similar-utilization techniques, what the attack could be strengthened by, a character's weaknesses and strengths, etc. GreatPanda 03:42, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I guess I kinda brought this upon myself by just springing the style guide on you without any warning or your input - I'm sorry for that. I made the style guide so that the wiki has consistency and not random articles that are all different, however, I know it needs finishing and I will expand it's detail so that it is clearer.
I agree with GreatPanda, I don't think there should be sub-pages for weapons, moves, etc - they wouldn't be any way near long enough to qualify as a decent wiki page and it would reduce the ammonut of info on a character page. I also agree that having/mentioning older game movelists (DW3, DW4, etc) is kind of pontiless and redundant. I also agree that Character info should cover thier persoality, this is something I missed out for some reason. However, I disgaree on the historical info, the main reason why is that this is a wiki about the 'Warriors' games and as such the articles should refelct this aspect of the characters - thier game aspect. Their historical aspect should be mentioned for obvious reasons but the articles are about the characters from the games - not from the ROTK.
I've stated my opniion now, when a clear decision has been reached i will follow up accordingly.--Aeonlord92 09:06, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I have a question regarding the historical section. Would it be too out of place to include actual paintings, photos of statues -or what have you- in the section? Would we have to find a GNU for them too if we do include them? Koei's interpretations takes liberties anyways (for obvious reasons).Sake neko 18:48, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, including actual portrayals and such would be useful for those that haven't been made unique yet, like Yan Liang, Liu Chan or the like. There isn't really any Warriors image of them, so would it be fine if we used what Sake neko had said? GreatPanda 00:47, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
I have no problems with that, just not too many. I'd say about 2 images about this maximum just so the generics can have some pics. By all means get a couple for the main characters as well as it will brighten up thier pages.--Aeonlord92

Strikeforce versionsEdit

Should their new forms go on the character articles or should it just stick with the game article in a gallery section of some sort? I was also wondering if it would be noteworthy to mention Red Cliff here too since Koei's somewhat endorsing the film. Sake neko 07:04, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

How's Koei endorsing Red Cliffs? I would say myself not to add it unless Koei either helped made it(which it hasn't) or was a driving factor in it's sales (again hasn't). This sites for the games, so I would say no to Red Cliffs but yes to the images myself. I'm not an admin or oldtimer here, but if this wikia is for the dynasty warriors games(and has been expanded to most Koei games) and the images are from Dynasty Warriors:Strikeforce why not? Moogle Buddy 20:04, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
It was somewhat tied in with DW6 Special's release in Japan. The commercial song's the same as Red Cliff's image song (http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/103/103929/). A bit now too with Strikeforce (http://japan.gamespot.com/psp/news/story/0,3800075348,20388719,00.htm). Actually, in Japan, the two medians are often compared and advertised together, usually by the media though. Sake neko 22:30, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

I would say include the Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce forms, but not to the Red Cliffs movie. Yeah, KOEI's cross-advertising with it, but still, as Moogle Buddy said, they didn't help make it. Unless this was officially a KOEI Wiki/focusing on all things KOEI, then we shouldn't make articles on it. It's just like a DC Comics Wiki having an article on the Watchmen. They are related to it via publishing, but everything in the book still has nothing to do with the DC Comics universe. If you'd like help with the Strikeforce images, I'd be happy to help. Also, while we're at it, is there some law that says we can use images from KOEI Warriors, and should I ask an Admin there if I can use them here? Pretty sure Fair Use doesn't apply to it. :P GreatPanda 01:28, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Actually, you can grab most of those Strikeforce images from the official website. I think the only ones you can't at the moment are the "Other" characters. But I can find those easily from other jp news sites. It's not that I don't like Koei Warriors or anything but if we can get stuff from another site, then why not post it up? Sake neko 01:47, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
If you find useful pics from other sites then sure, run with em, although if it's not promo stuff, would be nice to source it. Also as a heads up though, Koeiwarriors has given us explicit permission to use their images, so I would check there first when looking for images. Dabigbozz42 15:13, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Merging ExpansionsEdit

As the various game expansions (i.e. Xtreme Legends/PSP/Empires and such) don't have too much information in them, I'd like to bring up a topic of whether we should merge them into the main game articles. This would expand on the main installments, and also clear up and refine the expansion articles (which personally I think are a bit space-consuming). Although, as a Wiki, I think that we should actually have as much information as possible on the games. Just a thought. GreatPanda 21:09, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I'd personally sayleave the expansions like Xtreme Legends & Empires, but the ones which I would say should be moved would be DW6:Special and the PSP versions of various games, this is because it is mostly just the PS2 version of DW6 and PSP versions of existing games, wheras the XL and Empires games are stand alone games that are different to their main games.--Aeonlord92
I concur with Aeon about the major expansions and about merging the special's, since those are usually just xtreme legends combined with the original and on a different console. But while I don't have any of the PSP titles, some of them seem like they have distinct differences, so I'm a bit hesitant about merging those (only a bit though, if anyone who has them could enlighten there, that'd be nice) but I know some like WO PSP were intended to be nearly identical with the exception of cutscenes, so that's one that could be merged. Dabigbozz42 15:12, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Style Names?Edit

Should they be included? I would like to add them, at least for the playable cast. It doesn't have to be in the infobox anything, just somewhere on the page for completion's sake (historical section maybe?). Some characters are referred to their style names in the Japanese script and it feels a bit weird to mention it only to not see it anywhere. It just adds a bit of intimacy between the characters, I think. Makes me feel a bit bad for the ladies though. Sake neko 07:22, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that sounds good, for the historical info section or the infoboxes, although historical info would be much less of a pain to implement. Dabigbozz42 15:12, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Crimson Sea?Edit

I know it isn't anywhere near the timeline as the Warriors games but it shares a similar battle system. An easy way to sum it up is that it's as a sci-fi Dynasty Warriors with guns and a wonky lock-on system. Since Mystic Heroes, another game with similar traits, is on here, would it be okay to add these two games? Sake neko 18:02, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

As long as it is from Koei (which I think it is *scratches head*) then yes. I say as long as you can get something on it, by all means. I am not an admin either but I have been here for a long time. And I shall say, major major ups for the expansion in this Wikia. I hope to be more active however now that I'm not addicted to IMVU anymore. >_<" Happy editing, MySoundtrackArmy 00:56, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, Crimson Sea is by Koei, so it we should have it, it isn't already up? Odd, oh well, and I'm alive again, I think I'll try helping with some Misc. Pages like Items Moogle Buddy 13:48, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

InputEdit

I'm going to try to be more helpful, and I'm going to start with Items. I'm going to use this format and I'm wondering the opinion on everyone:

1)Description of what the item is or does.

2)Appearance in games(what games it appears, and a physical description unless a picture gets put up.)

3)How to obtain

4)Suggested conditions of use(such as offensive players may like Survival scroll, or green scroll/power rune, but defensive may not)

4.1)Suggested characters to use on.
4.2)suggested characters not to use on.

5)Item Info Box

I'll have a trial version of what I mean with Wind scroll soon, input would be wonderfulMoogle Buddy 19:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I saw that format. Looks good to me. I say get other opinions before making that an "official" format though. Good job. ^_^ MySoundtrackArmy 08:29, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Stubs vs. Deletion(IMPORTANT!)Edit

We need to debate what warrants a stub vs. what warrants deletion. If feel if an article has less than three paragraphs at the very least it, needs to be considered spam and deleted. This Wika is suppose to give an knowledgeable veiw on the games and the subjects within them, not just a meanless paragraph taking up useless space. I also feel as far as new articles we need to stick to the games, unless somone is a notable general, he should not be included(Like Xiahou Mai, any of Cao Cao's sons other than Cao Pi, Chang Gong, Deng Ai, ect.). I know alot of these problems are from one particular nonuser but some articles like it are found anyways. As far as what defines a stub, I think a stub is a signal that this article is IMPORTANT to the wikia, to the koei games we cover, but is lacking in substance, and needs more added to it, not just a placeholdr with no information in it. Moogle Buddy 20:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

While on one hand I agree that only notable npcs should have articles, I feel it's a bit hasty automatically labeling them for deletion without making sure whether or not anything could be added to them. Cao Zhi on the top of my head is somewhat important in DW6 as if you let him get routed in one stage (can't remember which) you'll lose the battle and the stage will end. Little things like that should be researched and added. Most of the articles added don't really have anything on them as there hasn't been enough breathing room given for people to add info. kyosei 21:17, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Whatever contains less than three paragraphs or so and/or has no real definitive format or information should be deleted, but if the article's subject actually relates to a major game(i.e. Warriors games, Kessen, Dynasty Tactics, etc. excluding Romance of the Three Kingdoms which should have it's own format for characters somewhere in the very, very far future), then it should be a stub. Articles that aren't truly important in the major games like Yi Shang, Cao Mao, Hou Xuan, etc. should be deleted or something to that effect. The articles have no real information that could be added to them since they were insignificant in the RotK series and don't have too much information stored on them. Warlords should be kept, however, like Zhang Lu, Han Sui, Ma Teng, etc. Though aside from this, there are way too many articles labeled as stubs. I don't really think the unique character articles should be among the stub category. Especially articles like Zhao Yun and Liu Bei, that have a good amount of information on them. And Kyosei is right, a lot of articles that are labeled as candidates for deleting haven't had enough time to add information onto them. GreatPanda 21:20, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Stub pages are pages that are not complete; they don't have everything that an ideal page should have. This is why I labeled pages that look relatively complete (like Sun Shang Xiang, Liu Bei, and Cao Cao) as stubs. They either lack info that covers their entire role in the series, info regarding their gameplay, or in depth historical/Romance of the Three Kingdoms info. To say that Zhao Yun is a complete page is a bit off kilter since it doesn't really talk about his actual historical/novel counterpart; just oddly meshes it with his character story info. Yes, the series reenacts famous scenes from the novel but there should still be some distinctions for what actually happens in the games. They should be treated as separate bodies of info.
As far as deletion goes, I'm against it. Mostly because some pages should be given a chance to expand before labeling them as "insignificant". I think the issue is really more like "what makes a NPC" vs "who appears in the novel." Even though these pages were forcefully added, they may have a shred of importance once they're completed. Also, if we were going by what the DW series adds, then technically most of the added articles are legit thanks to the database/encyclopedia section. If we go by that mindset, we can narrow down who stays and who goes.
Or why not just save us the trouble of knowing who is a mentioned person by making a new template for characters who (have so far) only appeared in the novel? Then we can switch them in if they actually appear in the games. They can be put in their own section (like novel characters or something) and save us the trouble of even having this discussion. This wikia is likely to add them eventually with the ROTK disambiguation page that was set up long ago. Frankly, I'm more for this solution since it is bothersome to erase a page only to have an unwitting IP spring this again. It also adds more coverage for the novel/history, which is always a good thing in my book. I was kinda thinking of doing the same with some of the Samurai Warriors/Kessen related characters in the future. Anyways, that's what I think. Sake neko 01:08, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

I was hoping we might have a mod sort this out...but it seems I hoped in vain. Anyway I thought we wouldn't want empty article because they have nothing in them, they don't add anything to the wikia, if someone adds content to them I'll say that's excellent, but if they don't have anything in them they might as well not be there. Also as to some of the people who only existed in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, we only cover the games so we shouldn't even cover them, I feel the same for NPC who have no role in the games at all. If they appear frequently(Cheng Pu, Yan Yan) or have a role(Yan Liang and He Jin) then we should cover them, but otherwise I don't think we should cover them. Anyways thanks for the input and thank all of you for the amount of work you've added here. And on the bright side that bothersome IP just seemed to disappear, on the dark side he was never blcoked so he could come back at anytime. We really need someone to who can block these people...<sigh>...Moogle Buddy 19:21, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Quotable QuotesEdit

I've been thinking this needed to be done for awhile, but a grand opportunity to discuss it has arisen. Notice that Yue Ying's quotes section has now become monstrously huge to the point that it seems to be the main focus of the article. Rather than deleting most of them down to choice few, would it be too much to suggest to separate common quotes heard during gameplay onto their own page? This could apply to all the other characters as well and the quote section can either be removed or left with choice quotes from special cutscenes and the like. The pages could be called "Yue Ying (Quotes)", etc.

I was also thinking the same could be done for say the weapons guide sections. It's a weird tonal shift to talk about Game FAQs-like strategies for obtaining weapons after spending over half of article talking about the characters themselves when all is said and done. The weapon and fighting styles sections could stay as nice brief overviews and then a page called for example "Zhou Yu (Walkthrough)" or something could be made. Detailed information about their Musou modes and weapon guides from each game could be inserted on this separate page. kyosei 00:34, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

I think that would be an idea worthy of at least a trial at least. If you can get a page big enough (says he with the Item category) I'm all for adding any pages of depth. I'm kind of lost in this wikia, so that's why I don't help to much(you all are too good), but if you need help here I can be of assistance. If you look some remote places we have DW4 walkthroughs, but they are incomplete, and rare. I'll try to get a trial version of someone later and see what you think.Moogle Buddy 13:21, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
I like the idea. I'm not sure if we really need a whole page for just Quotes, but for Musou mode walkthroughs would be great. Fighting Style sections, I don't really think needs any of its own page - Its summary on the character pages now isn't too space-consuming. But on the topic of Quote pages, again, I'm not really sure about it since it'd take a hella lot of effort to get just one character's page full. GreatPanda 00:57, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Trust me. Just by going on Yue Ying's quote section alone it's easily justifiable for making, like I said, the more commonly heard quotes their own page. A good portion of the quotes listed there are just that. A good jump start on getting a good portion of them down can be done easily via Dynasty Warriors 6's voice collection. The older games will be a bit harder to collect quotes since they're not as easily accessed in the same manner but they have just as many. I'm fine with leaving the fighting sections as they are, but they need to have a more neutral point of view. Many of them are biased. Rather than describing to a reader how the characters plays, they dictate to the reader how to play them. Suggesting that it is the only way to play them when in all truth anyone can play the character as they please. kyosei 02:03, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Mystic Heroes expansion?Edit

I kinda mentioned it on the page's opening paragraphs, but the game is actually a part of the Fengshen Yanyi series that Koei made. It's just that Mystic Heroes is the only version that I know of that made it to the Western shores. I was wondering if it would be all right to add more about the older games so the Mystic Heroes thumbnails can be put in their own character articles. In Taigong Wang's case, since he has two characters based on him, I'd be willing to leave it as it is on his page right now and link the two respective characters. That way, any Mystic Heroes fans (they pop up once in awhile) can talk more about the characters' fighting style and story.

The only thing I'd struggle with is whether the characters should be called their Japanese pronunciations, the original Chinese names, or the English version of their names. Anyone think we should add the other games or should it just be left as Mystic Heroes? Sake neko 00:45, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

If you can do it, go for it. As for the names case, I'd suggest going with their original Chinese names if they haven't been localized in the Americas. That's my half-a-cent. GreatPanda 00:57, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Wait I just thought of something else I might have a problem with. The game's title. Technically, it wouldn't be off to say Fengshen Yanyi but people know the games better as Houshin Engi (the Japanese pronunciation). It's the same exact title really but I'm wondering if it's okay just to say Fengshen Yanyi. The same goes for the second game and the spin-off too since they also use "Houshin". I'm worried that I make the page under Fengshen but have someone randomly move it to Houshin since they're more used to it. I'm still thinking of how exactly to approach this one... Sake neko 23:06, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

New AdminshipEdit

Something that has come to my attention is it;'s that time of year again, where we drive off the old admins and need more.(kidding about the yearly thing). But it is something we need to think about. If you look we've run out, DaBigBozz and BigWhooper both don't answer their talk pages, and Aeonlord left a note on his userpage saying he's left for goodk, so that leaves us with none. If you look back at the community portal it's happend before. Without a Admin we can't block people(like 209.102.246.93), or delete articles(same IP comes to mind). I personally would nominate GreatPanda and Sake Neko. I belive all we need to see Central Wikia about who we choose.Moogle Buddy 00:49, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

I guess but I would rather push for finding what exact format we should follow before doing any of this stuff. I'm going to mention it in another section what exactly I mean. Sake neko 21:20, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Image LicensesEdit

I'm not too familiar with licenses, so I was wondering if anyone could answer a question. I unfortunately don't have the tools and resources to make my own images for the Wiki. Since we have permission from KOEI Warriors to use their images, I was wondering, what kind of licensing should I put down when I upload an image from KOEI Warriors? I don't wanna flood the Wiki with pictures with "no license". Help, before I go image-crazy. GreatPanda 00:44, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Is there really a need to put down a special license for an image taken from Koei Warriors? A good majority of them are taken from either the official websites, other Japanese gaming sites or are pictures scanned by fans who don't actually help run the website. For instance, a good majority of the character artwork posted there is scanned by individuals here and here. Additionally, it's not like Koei Warriors themselves actually created the official artwork and renders, Koei did. So it doesn't really belong to them in the first place if you want to get technical. If it really bothers you, you can just make a small comment on where you took the image from when uploading it. Source: http://koeiwarriors.co.uk/ or Image taken from http://koeiwarriors.co.uk/ and leave the license as "None Selected". Besides, for all of the templates that have been made here, only one for image license has been made. The others would show up as a red link if you picked them anyways.
Thank you for clearing that up. GreatPanda 22:45, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Revising the Style GuideEdit

Since we kinda glazed over it for awhile, it's probably about time we actually got around to shaping it and quasi-finalizing it. I put up general things that should be included but I think it needs input from everyone. I want to emphasize that even though these games are based on history, they are still fictional and still take liberties. Anyways, I ask that everybody stroll over to the style guide and see what needs changing.

I know right away that I don't know how to address the following:

  • How detailed the gameplay should actually be. Like should we include recommendations or keep it simple and to the point. I think it depends if we choose to use the walkthrough idea or not.
  • The appearance section. I find it a bit pointless to talk in depth about the character's default appearance when you can see them in the gallery. I'd like to emphasize alternates.
  • Whether we should use a walkthrough to talk about every game a character has appeared in and the minute differences between them. I think anything related to older gameplay movesets or previous weapons not featured in the Warriors Orochi series or their recent incarnations (DW6 or SW2) could be moved here. Since this is a wiki and not wikipedia, I'm all for it though. I am sure that if we do use this, I would like to add all the musou stages (except for dw4, linking the kingdom walkthrough is fine) the characters have on this page.
  • If voice actors should get their own pages to avoid voice actor related trivia in the character articles. It just seems a bit tacky to put it down there... This is an idea from SNK wikia that I was pretty partial to using here.
  • Kingdom, clan, or alliance pages in general. Not their existence but how to format them. I kinda like the format we have now though. I'm just wondering if we should include the secondary forces not quite featured in the games -like Yuan Shao's army- in their own pages.
  • What to do for the Misc characters. Yeah, I made their category and everything but I'm not sure if they need an infobox or not. Or whether they should be in their own category based on their game series appearance (Category: Kessen characters or something). That might mean labeling everyone else at the same time though...
  • Making a separate template for the miscellaneous ROTK characters that a certain someone has spammed. This is a gaming wikia but, like I said earlier, I don't want to erase them just to have someone else repeat the same thing somewhere down the road. It'd just be a hassle and it's wiser to do this now instead of later. Not quite sure what the category should be though.
  • The matter of what to do with the Gundam characters. Please don't tell me that I'm the only one who cares about these guys. I'd like to cover them since not even the English Gundam wikia bothers with the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam titles.

Whew, it's wordy but please add some input guys. Sake neko 21:43, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

I more a chatterbox than a help, but here are my solutions to them:
1)As far as them as a game character my opinion is to cover every possible angle, as this is a wikia about the Koei games, and for the same reason I have the feeling that we should try to be more to the point in the historical part of the character, just what they did important that put them in the game, I have a hard time doing this myself, but Aeonlord formally pointed out that this is a wikia just for the games. Though he is gone now so it's more of a guideline. I also have the suggestion to have a "Gaming Style:(Character)" page for characters that shows from the viewpoint of someone good at using them some suggestion. I would heavily emphisize on those pages that they are just suggestions from people how are good at them.
2)Agreed

3)My feeling is to make a page if possible, otherwise I agree with it.

4)Against a page for voice actors individually, but a page just for all of them is something I would recommend, but I would also suggest to have the page listed in the see also section, but with a link that pinpoint's that character's voice actor(ie. in Guan Yu's page hit see also and it takes you to his position on that page). I would be sorted by the characters rather than alphabettically last name.(i.e. All voices of Guan Yu{he's my gunia pig})
5) I would only put their main force they fought for myself as far as categories, just mention other forces in their page(Like Guan Yu temporarily fought for Cao Cao... After the battle of Guan Du he returned back to Liu Bei)
6)Possible solution: 1) DELETE, in the power of an admin, and if we have one he can block the account that's been doing all of the useless pages so he doesn't remake them, as I said earlier, if they don't have importance in any games they should be gotten rid of 2)Make a sepparate page for all of them listing them and what they did, all those pages could quite comfortable fit on a few pages of wikia(Misc Generals: A-H)

7)Sorry I don't own any of the Dynasty Gundam Games, so I can't help you with making them. They and Crimson Sea Characters should have pages, but I know nothing of the games. Then again it's not like I do alot of editting anymore sadly. P.S. I do monitor the wikia daily thought to see where everything is going, and to rid it of trash, I just don't edit much.Moogle Buddy 00:01, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

I'd used to think that the historical/novel should be more to the point as well but then I thought about the other games this wikia tries to cover. For the Rotk games, it's a useful partial guide to include a detailed version since you can play as those characters in a similar manner as the novel/history. I personally think it'd be a bit annoying to make a detailed Rotk/Nobu Ambition game section in a character's article just to basically say their actual history. The same goes with Dynasty Tactics, Kessen, and a few other historical simulation games.
With Nobunaga's historical section that I'm writing, I'm trying to include what he does based on the Samurai Warriors series and Kessen III but it's already turned into a beast of a section. I'm also allowing a bit of perspective for the reader since the English wikipedia entry doesn't really cover everything that he did.
As far as the Gaming Syle suggestion goes, I'd rather include all of that on the Walkthrough page that could be made. I'd like to think that page can include anything about a character and not just DW4, DW5 or DW6 info. I kinda see it in my head as something like this:
  • List the games the character is in their separate section. Include the more recent titles too. I'm thinking that Warriors Orochi can be its own series section though.
  • Make a moveset chart for each title and include a detailed fighting section for each of the older games (DW4 and below). With that, include recommendations for weapons, items, or whatever.
  • Include their Musou Mode stages for each title at the end of each section.
  • Copy and Paste the DW4 and older weapon charts onto this page with the respective title. DW5 can be kept on the character's page since they're still used in the Warriors Orochi series.
  • Rinse and repeat for each title.
When Samurai Warriors 3 comes out, a similar thing can be done for the Samurai Warriors characters. Move their Samurai Warriors weapon images and movelist onto the Walkthrough page so we don't have to erase the old info for "not being recent". I'm really more for the Walkthrough idea so when we can keep older titles but keep the character's article up to date. Plus, this wikia currently alienates anyone who hasn't played DW4~DW6 so this would be their chance to contribute.
Partially the reason why I don't want to merge the random Rotk characters onto one page is related to the ideas I mentioned regarding the historical/novel section. Plus for reasons I already mentioned. There maybe also a chance that a NPC can also be made into a uniquely playable Warriors character so I wouldn't erase the pages that are made now just because they aren't uniquely playable yet. This is another reason why I started the individual factions pages in the Warriors Orochi series; we can better comb through who's been a game or not. Easiest way to check though is to pop in the games and look through the database to see who has been in at least Dynasty Warriors. Again, I'd rather just make a new Rotk template and format for characters that only really appear in the novel and not in any Koei titles yet. So far, Zhang Rang is a good candidate. Should I use him as a test dummy?
I'm only for the one page merge regarding the bodyguard characters because well, they don't do much of anything in Koei's games and are really just a name and a quotebox. Some bodyguards can get their own pages since they've appeared in more than one title but that's they can be linked there as well to save time.
As far as the _____ force's/faction's go, I wanted to make their own pages for them. Similar to how the Warriors Orochi factions are like. I wasn't addressing the categories or anything but how that page (and any other page like it) should be formatted.
When I was addressing the Misc Characters, I meant the original ones I added but left in this category. Don't know what to do with them. Sake neko 03:00, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Request for AdminshipEdit

I made the page for it here. I mostly used and then truncated Wikipedia's version of the same page if you guys need a visual aide. It's not really complete but feel free to add anything you might think that might be missing or adjust the amount of time that should pass before someone should be nominated, etc. If everything seems fine then get nominating. Hopefully once someone is nominated, a helper from Wikia can make them a sysop or bureaucrat. kyosei 21:07, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, according to the recent changes, you're the only member with admin rights at the moment. I guess that means we can rely on you to do some clean up at least. :) Sake neko 00:26, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Er, yeah I just saw that. That was certainly unexpected as in my email I only requested that a) a certain troublesome IP be dealt with and b) someone should be made an admin or help with our admin problem. I didn't expect them to actually make me an admin to have me solve the problem myself 0_0. Well, I guess that's one way to solve it. Nice to meet you everyone, I'm the new admin now apparently. My first order of business will be blocking the IP and deleting all of the unused categories or other pages marked for deletion...cause there's a lot. kyosei 03:08, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay guys. I edited the side bar slightly and am thinking of changing the page title to include other key words. Let me know if something else should be added to the side bar.kyosei 06:32, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Warriors: Legends of TroyEdit

Should we write about it? It is for the Western side of the world after all... It just seems a little hypocritical to cover it when its goal is to basically reinvent everything that these games did. Sake neko 22:21, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

I personally don't mind so long as it's Koei-related but I don't know how everyone else would feel about it heh. kyosei 02:05, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
I say go for it. I'll go ahead and write an Article(be shocked) for it. As a fun note anyone see the article where Koei is planning for it to be an "M" game. A novel peice of news there. Any problems if I also Add this to the News section on the main page?Moogle Buddy 20:58, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Edit

I figure it's about time to bring this subject up again. Any suggestions on what it should look like? Personally, I don't care so long as it's something other than the current logo. It's somewhat out of date and doesn't quite reflect the wiki's purpose anymore. I might just be lazy and use a Dynasty Warriors logo and slap on the word wiki if nobody comes up with any ideas. Please keep in mind that it can only be 155px by 216px large. So think small-ish. Since it has to be in png format it can also have some transparency. Also, do people want the logo to say the long since suggested name, KOﻉIki? kyosei 19:24, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm back! Sorry I was on Vacation. Anyway I personally like the last logo listed on the previous discussion, why not steal and use that?Moogle Buddy 20:56, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
The problem is that it's too big to be used as a logo for the site. The one used in the last discussion is 400px by 180px. It needs to be smaller: 216px by 155px. The height is almost alright, but it's much too wide. kyosei 22:44, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

I love gamemaker, would 216px by 97px be alright?

Koeiki2.

Moogle Buddy 04:01, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

I suppose that'll do. I'll have to re-save it to be in png format though. kyosei 14:01, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Ok, it's been uploaded. Give the cache a bit to update and it should be seen soon. kyosei 14:05, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Name and Address ChangeEdit

Change the name to Koei Wiki?

The poll was created at 00:14 on July 2, 2009, and so far 16 people voted.

While it was planned in the past discussions, do people still want to change the name of the wiki to Koei Wiki officially? As it is I only changed it in the Main page title. The official change of the address and change of the name of the wiki isn't official yet though. I just need a yea or nay vote here as it can apparently be quickly done by the Wikia staff. The old dynasty warriors wikia address will probably redirect here. I think the most it'll affect will be the search engine results from places like Google, but that's about it. kyosei 21:24, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

The wiki's address has officially been moved to koei.wikia.com. Thanks to all of you who chose to participate in this vote! Kyosei 06:05, January 19, 2010 (UTC)

Official goodbyeEdit

As was noted earlier, I haven't been responsive in quite a while, and while I have my excuses for this, I'm still obliged to not just totally abandon you guys, so instead I'll give some notification. Yeah, life is taking away lots of my time and with what I have left I'm starting to realize what I really want to spend that remaining time on, and I can feel satisfied about leaving this place in your all's hands, since you "youngsters" have already taken that initiative really well and are driving forward with more love and determination than I could ever hope for. If I'm needed for whatever reason though, feel free to email or message or whatever me and I'll still try to help best I can, but the future is yours. Dabigbozz42 18:46, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

My absenseEdit

I am sorry to as the founder, not be an active member of the wiki as much as I may like. First founding the wiki December 2005, it has grown into quite a useful informative game reference. I haven't played the games for a while, and feel that a reasonable explaination is at hand. Due to life throwing me down and causing me to sway from dedication to certain things, I must hang up my boots so to speak, for now. If you need me, you may contact me by e-mail, or by aim (screenname being wossi1234, or eauwi1). I really never thought in 2006 that the wiki would look even remotely as good as it does now, but due to the hard work and dedication of loyal Koei and Dynasty Warriors fans, it has become the biggest and best Wiki-based Dynasty Warriors/Koei reference and informative wiki. I will still edit occasionally, but I needed to give, as Dabigbozz has, an explaination as to why I as the founder was away from the wiki for such a period of time. I will try my best to get reacquainted with the series, though I'm afraid I will not be nearly as good with it as I used to be the first time around when I had time to be a loyal DW and for that matter, game player. It seems only yesterday I played the demo disc of Dynasty Warriors 1 in 1997, with each of the Dynasty Warriors series getting better and better as time goes on. The difficulty of the games has also gotten more difficult as time surpasses, requiring more thinking, tactileness, and time to play them, which unfortunately is something I don't have much of as of now.

Due to not visiting the wiki since May (which again, was only for a small period of time to block a rogue user per request), and I see more administrators have been made to help keep trouble at bay. Which is why now I feel I can hang up my boots (per say) with ease, knowing there are other, more dedicated Dynasty Warriors fans that can manage the wiki a lot more regularly then I am now able to. I have also updated my Preference e-mail address to my current one, so I am easily contacted if need be or if one wants to talk. If you need any admin duities done, or people blocked that are interfering with the casual editing experience of the wiki, contact me with that as well, and I'll get to it as soon as I can. Once again, I think it is only fair you folks know the reasoning behind my absense and semi-retirement. I need time to get my life in gear, and my priorities straight, as well as time to reacquaint myself with the Dynasty Warriors series. Thank you all for many years of enjoyment, and friendship. Yours truly, Whopper user talk 00:07, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Featured articleEdit

Just a little notice that the featured article really, really needs to be changed. DW6 has the most votes therefore should be put up. The wikia looks a little "Stale" if we leave up the same featured article for months on end.Moogle Buddy 15:48, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Appearances SectionEdit

I think it's starting to feel a bit pointless to leave the section up. People either confuse its purpose (info about alternate outfits) or use it to describe a character's default outfits in a lot of detail. I also think people confuse appearances with "new game appearances", and that's not the goal of the section either. Since we have pictures of most of the default renders for a majority of the characters, I'm not really sure if we should really keep it around anymore. If someone wants to keep it, I think that it might need a rename. It might be a little confusing for non-native English speakers; maybe something like "Costumes" or "Colors" might be better... Sake neko 09:41, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

RotK Name UsageEdit

In the coming weeks I'm hoping to get a better version of the RotK novel, and so weeks after that, I plan to become active on the Wiki again and start editing. Before I do, however, I'd like to know everyone's opinions on whether using given names or style names are appropriate to use within the Romance of the Three Kingdoms section of related characters.

Personally I think given names are at the most okay to use, but not style names. What does everyone else feel? [Great Panda] (I've forgotten how to sign my posts D:)

I say stick to the full given names throughout the entire description and don't even bother to mention a character by their style name(s). Not everyone who comes here understands what style names are anyways. If you want to quote something directly but they say their style name or whatever, then put their real name in parenthesis beside it. Like "Mengde (Cao Cao)"; that type of thing. Sake neko 03:54, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
Signing your posts is done by simply typing ~~~~. Back to the topic, I say given names IMO. It's a bit of a pet peeve to see both style names and the given name used interchangeably while reading a historical/novel summary. Not only is it confusing at times but a bit annoying when a lot of names are mentioned at once. Keeping to just the given names helps things stay consistent. Kyosei 16:51, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

KingdomsEdit

I'd like to bring up the topic of Kingdom/Army articles. First, the Clan articles include mainly all historical information, while the Kingdom pages say they "aim" towards featuring the items exclusive to the Dynasty Warriors series. Personally I think it's a bit contradicting to have two types of articles under the same general idea focus on entirely different aspects.

Second, how should Enemies and Allies be organized, for example: Cao Cao's forces were not actually Wei when it battled with Yuan Shao, yet in his page, it lists Cao Cao's forces as Wei. Should we still link to Wei but have it listed as Cao Cao?

Thirdly, if there's a page for the Ten Eunuchs, shouldn't there be one for Gongsun Zan (just a thought, not really a question)? And lastly, do factions such as Yuan Shao, the Han, and the Yellow Turbans have enough merit to include a template that's unique to armies and not Kingdoms? I couldn't help but notice that those Army pages were pretty empty. GreatPanda 05:44, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

Well, to be honest, most of the writing for the kingdom pages was what was written from the older users. I only did the clan pages recently and I wanted to aim it towards being historically driven to also try to satisfy Nobunaga's Ambition and other historical simulation games. You're right in worrying about the kingdom pages; that was my concern as soon as I was writing the clan pages. I'd also say that it's pretty biased that the more complete looking page is only Shu and it mainly meshes with the Dynasty Warriors games like you said. I'd think it'd look better if we could add good historical and RoTK summaries to the pages. I would at least keep the first paragraph regarding each kingdoms "colors" in the games series since not everyone who visits here might know which kingdom is which.
As for the armies, ruler, or vassals section on these pages, it should be a little more easier to follow. And it shouldn't include "imaginary" followers (like Xing Cai, Lu Lingqi, and Cai Wenji -she existed but was not a part of Wei) since it only applies in select titles. Preferably, I would want to list out several more ladies or generals for each kingdom, rather than just the ones that appear in Dynasty Warriors. I wouldn't advocate making their pages, but listing them is fine. That way, it can feel like it was more of an actual complete scope of each kingdom.
I'm nit-picky like that too and that's why I rearranged the Wu page to better fit with that thinking. Except I only listed generals who first appeared serving either leaders of the Sun family. I thought it was a bit pointless to keep re-listing generals who lived to serve more than one Sun in their lifetime. If you want, you can do the same to Wei. Most people accept Cao Cao's army as "Wei" but that doesn't necessarily mean that all of generals lived to see it. That's probably one of the active changes I did for any kingdom page.
They're mostly empty because they're brand new. I just wanted to kick out the "army" section that used to be on Dong Zhuo's and Yuan Shao's and other pages; it looked a little tacky. Sure, we can expand the army pages and give them a template. What should it include? Should it include roughly historical and RoTK info like the kingdoms should have, or should it be more like the Dynasty Warriors games like it kinda is now? Or should it be a mix of both? If we decide on this, we can update the style guide to better reflect and stick by how these type of pages should be in the future. Sake neko 06:10, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

Agreed with the first three paragraphs. Though on the topic of listing fictional characters: Maybe they could have their own mini-list, with very brief summaries on how they relate to their faction. I'd imagine a full page could go like this:

(Introduction/Template)

  • Historical Information
  • Romance of the Three Kingdoms
  • Generals of [name]
    • Rulers (defining reign periods)
    • Advisers
    • Generals
    • Ladies (defining relations to faction)
    • [Fictional Characters?] (defining relations to faction)
  • Relations
    • Allies
    • Enemies

For articles in general, there should be a mix of both historical/RotK information; mainly historical with the novel info having its own section. For templates, I think s a start date would be difficult to define for some armies (i.e. Ten Eunuchs, Dong Zhuo), but end dates would certainly be applicable. Also there should be the standard Major Generals/Battles list, but not a list of rulers. Not sure what else. :\ GreatPanda 18:44, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

Why not keep the ruler families together in the same section, rather than spread them out as such? I'd personally rather make the organization a little more like the Clans pages in that respect. It's a little weird to see the ruler's family listed after the vassals. I'm fine with keeping the completely fictional relations in its own section though, just as long as it doesn't mingle with the historical info. I also personally find listing allies and enemies is a bit of a waste since most of the important ones we need to know are already stated with the character pages. If the historical/novel summaries are done properly, it just makes them look redundant.
So basically the order I propose is something like this:
  • Opening paragraph with the "colors"
  • Historical info
  • RoTK novel <-include any mention of colors for kingdom/army
  • Rulers (agree with reign years since some of them were short)
    • Other Figures (known fathers, sons, brothers, cousins, male family members of rulers; Sun Jian had more than two, why not list them)
    • Ladies (known daughters, sisters, wives of rulers)
  • Vassals
    • Special Labels (5 Tigers, 4 Families, etc.; from the novel as well; if there aren't any known, then don't list them)
    • Advisors
    • Generals - with the subsections
  • Fictional Characters (from relations formed in games, original characters in the games, or ones from the RotK novel)
    • subsections maybe if there are a lot of fictional family members or something
  • Other info, stories, or legends for the kingdoms/army (like Ma Yunlu from the Fan Sanguo Yanyi, vocal tales, Suikoden with Guan Yu's descendant, and Hanbei, Ieyasu, Hideyoshi legend from Japan based on RoTK influence); most of it is Shu or Wei though...
Of course, we shouldn't repeat the family relations on the army pages like the Allied Forces page. That'd be redundant. Family relations should mostly be kept on actual pages where its needed. In other words, Gongzun Zan's family is listed on his own army page, not on the Allied Forces one.
Uh, this sounds silly but should we make any mentions of the Jin Dynasty anywhere or make their page? I know they aren't in the Dynasty Warriors series but its one of those things to keep in retrospect. On that thought, maybe we can someday extend the kingdoms list to include Chu or Qin, that type of thing. It's just weird to only have a limited use for the Kingdoms category. Alliances have promise to grow since it can be extended with more factions (like Liu Zhang, Gongsun Zan, and others), but kingdoms is so few that it feels to odd to only have so many. As long as they are made well and with enough focus for what the games introduce, I wouldn't really mind. Anyways, it's something to think about. Sake neko 11:33, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

I have to say, I really like your format, especially how it's much more in-line with the Clan pages. Disagree with the part about the Relations part looking redundant, but you're correct that it wouldn't be needed if the historical/novel/character summaries are done correctly.

The thought of mentioning the Jin dynasty on a kingdom's page isn't silly at all. Especially since now we're going towards a historical viewpoint, it'd be better if we included things like that. I also agree with the army-exclusive family mentions and that someday, after the pages are finished, we should include the Chu and Qin as pages, especially now that we have characters that acknowledge their existence.

So is this a good layout for now? Think we should make it stick for the style guide too? Sake neko 09:00, March 13, 2010 (UTC)

Yes to both, it'll do just fine for now.

Sorry for the lack of presenceEdit

Reason for pause in SW3 storiesEdit

As some people may know, the Japanese voice actor Daisuke Gori passed away unexpectedly in January this year. His death was rather shocking to me and it became hard for me to listen to his roles, the famous and not so famous ones (I cried like a babe when I rewatched the Fist of North Star remake anime and Fudoh spoke). Gori voiced Shingen and he also was the narrator for the Samurai Warriors series (he voices the in between stages story narrations and other voice overs during movies). I was able to kinda skim through the Xtreme Legends characters by just reading and putting the narration sections on mute, but it was actually pretty hard to do since I kept thinking about Gori's passing and got emotional about it. I'm getting over his death a little bit though, so I'll probably try and restart them soon. Sake neko 10:25, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

Small clarification neededEdit

While editing today, I got confused about things regarding the Forces/Significant Battle(s) on characters' infoboxes. Take for example Guan Yu, currently he's listed as working for Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and then Shu. Now, technically, when battling the Yellow Turbans, Guan Yu was servicing the Han under Liu Bei. So Han should be a force listed in his infobox. I know it's been discussed before in edit summaries, but I can't recall what was said, therefore, my question is this for both Forces and Significant Battle(s): Are they a historical summary, or are they based on games? Thanks for the reply. GreatPanda 22:18, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

Um, technically he's with Liu Bei during that time anyways so I'd stick to Shu in his infobox. Besides, the whole serving the Han thing is already mentioned (or at least it should be mentioned) in the respective kingdom pages. I mean, if you do it for Guan Yu, you'd also have to do it for every other character who was present at that time. Even then, the games make it pretty clear that "so-and-so" is really serving under "so-and-so" during the Han's recruitment effort. I personally wouldn't bother with it unless they're an Others character without an army page. Forces in the infoboxes for characters should list the ones in the games. The faction pages are more historical driven, and they can already say that "so-and-so" wasn't actually

there like the games.

The battles listed in the infoboxes for forces/kingdoms should be based on history/novel only with respects to what happens in the games (mainly Dynasty Warriors since that's the only ones we have at the moment). In other words, don't list out the all of the confrontations in He Fei and don't list original battles made up for the games (Baidi Castle). If you want to make a mention regarding conflicts not listed in the Dynasty Warriors games, that's what the historical/novel summaries are there for.
As far as characters goes, I've been pushing to list only historical/novel ones as well just to make it consistent. Unless they're original/mythological (like the Warriors Orochi battles for the mystics or Xing Cai), then it doesn't really matter. Frankly, it's difficult for me to do the research for both SW and DW eras simultaneously so you can help properly fill in the ones for the DW characters if you want. I can double check on them later. :) Sake neko 00:45, April 7, 2010 (UTC)
