Player avatars are required to create a Mitama party before starting their missions. A maximum four Mitama can form each team as long as each Mitama is within the player's cost capacity. Rarity for each soul is indicated by the number of stars located above their portrait (seven stars being the highest rank). Each soul has attack, health, and speed properties. The traits of their secondary battle abilities are determined by one of the three designated types:

  1. Slay () - Offensive. Decent speed. Moderate skill cost. Strong against Vacuum demons.
  2. Smash () - Defensive and restorative focus. Sluggish. High skill cost. Best against Slay demons.
  3. Vacuum () - Strategic. Fast. Low skill cost. Effective against Smash demons.

Mitama can initiate either ability based on the speediness of the player's actions in battle (ハヤフリ, hayafuri) or by choice (タマフリ, tamafuri). The second option drains the player avatar's spirit gauge which can be built by defeating demons with the correct opposing element. Tap on a Mitama's portrait to trigger once the spirit cost has been met.

Each Mitama were given a set of skills to their arsenal on December 10, 2014. To supplement a skill, players require a fusion with Nameless Miko Mitama whom can be earned from special quests. Skills can be leveled up to add bonus health, attack, or defense properties for groups. Skill effects can stack. A maximum fifty Mitama can be kept by default. One treasure orb can be used to increase the limit by three.
