Tiger Deity (虎力道師, onyomi: Koriki Doshi) is a secondary antagonist in Saiyuki: Journey West. He is one of King Taurus's minions.

Role in Game[]

When Sanzo's group arrives in the castle town of Biku, they discover it is eerily quiet. They find sleeping children inside the town's urns, which devastates Ryorin. The villagers explain that the king ordered the children to be drugged for their livers to cure his illness. Sanzo and the others decide to negotiate with the king for an alternative cure.

In the king's audience hall, they meet Tigra, an old man claiming to be a magician. Tigra insists that the livers are necessary for the cure and challenges anyone else to help the king. Goku senses something suspicious and challenges Tigra to a shape-shifting contest. Goku exposes Tigra's true identity when he notices his tail. Tigra escapes to Tiger Cave but is eventually defeated by Sanzo's group. Under interrogation, Tigra reluctantly admits that the livers were meant for a youth elixir. Taking advantage of a distraction caused by Rhinon, Tigra escapes to Storm Mountain. The king recovers and thanks Sanzo's group for driving out the monster. Sanzo and the others continue their journey westward.

Tigra later joins his fellow Weres in a comeback battle against Sanzo. Defeated again, he runs away and never confronts Sanzo again.

Personality[]

Confident in his shape-shifting, Tigra believes himself to be a master of impersonations. He admires his own magic casting abilities and thinks himself superior to anyone of his trade. His embarrassing loss to Goku's trickery leads to his heartfelt grudge against the monk.

Fighting Style[]

Like most enemy Weres, he has two ways of attacking: a weak hit from his staff and Tigra's special ability, ThunderStrike. ThunderStrike hits a large area with storms and lightning bolts, but it doesn't cause much damage and only slows down the player's progress. However, during the second battle, it becomes dangerous when combined with Windy's StunWind. To avoid serious injuries, keep the party members' health high and keep them away from both spell casters.
